VNU’s outstanding events and achievements in 2018
2018 continued to witness significant advancement of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) with many innovations in the fields of activity. VNU Information Portal proudly presents the following 10 VNU’s outstanding events and achievements in 2018.
Vietnam Prime Minister appoints VNU President Nguyen Kim Son as Chairman of VNU Council
On January 3, 2019, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed Decision No. 11 /QD-TTg to appoint Mr. Nguyen Kim Son, VNU President, as VNU Council Chairman for the term of 2018-2023.
VNU and National Chiao Tung University: Willing to cooperate in training for semiconductor industry
VNU has started its 2019 external relations with the signing of a cooperation agreement with National Chiao Tung University (NCTU).
Closing Ceremony of 128th AUN-QA Assessment at Programme Level
The assessors from the Southeast Asia University Network (AUN) have finished two days’ assessment of two VNU’s academic programmes: Bachelor of Arts in English Language – Translation and Interpreting (Fast-track) of VNU University of Languages and International Studies and Bachelor in Mechatronics Engineering of VNU University of Engineering and Technology. This was an activity within the 128th AUN-QA Assessment at Programme Level.
Two VNU’s academic programmes under the ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) standard accreditation
The programme of Bachelor of Arts in English Language - Translation and Interpreting (Fast track) of VNU University of Languages and International Studies and the programme of Bachelor in Mechatronics Engineering of VNU University of Engineering and Technology are the two more programmes under evaluation by AUN-QA assessors, raising the total number of VNU’s programmes assessed in 2018 to 6.

Academic year 2018-2019 Pony Chung scholarship awarded to 30 VNU’s students
Over the past 10 years, $150,000, equivalent to nearly 3.3 billion VND, has been offered by Pony Chung Scholarship Foundation to 300 VNU’s outstanding students. In the 11th year of this event, 30 more VNU’s students with excellent academic and research achievements were honorably awarded scholarships from the Foundation.
Business Challenges 2018 encourages student startup ideas
On December 8, 2018, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) in collaboration with the Institute of Friedrich Naumann Vietnam held the Business Challenges 2018 Grand Final round. Inherited and upgraded from the UEB Genesis Start-up Competition in 2016 and 2017, Business Challenges 2018 was renewed in both form and content; and, besides the existing Startup branch, a new branch, Business Issues, was added.

According to uniRank™ 2018 Rankings of 67 Vietnamese universities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) ranked first, followed by the University of Da Nang, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, FPT University, Can Tho University, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, VNUHCM University of Science, VNUHCM University of Science and Technology, VNUHCM University of Information Technology.
VNU won gold medal at the International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) 2018
At the IEYI 2018, all of the 7 Vietnamese participating projects won awards, including a gold medal for the project on observing and testing the quality of water in aquacultural environment by the VNU's contestant.
Japan’s Certificate of Merit Awarded to Late Prof. Phan Huy Lê
On October 17, 2018, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Japanese Foreign Minister to late historian and People’s Teacher Phan Huy Lê in recognition of his great contributions to the promoting of Vietnam-Japan academic exchange, the training of Japanese Studies researchers as well as the introducing of the Movement of Dong Du (Eastern-Country Study Tour) to the peoples of the two countries.
