Ranking 213th in the overall university rankings in 2012, VNU was the only Vietnamese university listed in Asia’s top 300 leading universities. Top 10 universities in Asia were Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, National University of Singapore, University of Hong Kong, Seoul National University (Korea), Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST - Korea), University of Tokyo (Japan), Pohang University of Science and Technology (Korea) and Kyoto University (Japan).
In the top 100 universities in Natural Sciences and Life Science-Biomedicine, VNU was ranked 61st and 84th, respectively.
