Enhancing cooperation for future development
In the afternoon of August 24, 2012, Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan – VNU President and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Kim Son – VNU Vice President had a meeting with the delegation of Taiwan’s National Science Council led by Deputy Minister Mou Chung-Yuan.

The meeting focused on discussing the cooperation direction, especially in educating talents in science and technology.
According to Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, VNU is one of the two highly autonomous universities in Vietnam which is implementing the development strategies to reach the international standards through training programs in English, inviting famous scholars to do joint research or give lectures at VNU, or offering their staff many opportunities to study and research at other countries. VNU President did believe that this visit of Taiwan’s National Science Council delegation would promote the two sides cooperation in research, science, technology and training.
Mr. Mou Chung-Yuan stated that the principal purpose of the visit was to enlarge collaboration on many fields with Vietnamese partners including VNU. Also, Taiwan would create the good conditions for Vietnamese students by providing scholarships for them to study and research in Taiwan.
At the meeting, the two sides approved of the proposal on cooperation contents discussed on August 21, 2012 between Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang, VNU Vice President and Dr. Kuo Feng Yew, Director, Science and Technology Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam (TECO). According to this proposal, the two sides would cooperate in various fields like joint training of graduate students; the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan offering scholarships for VNU postgraduate students at Taiwanese universities; co-organizing conferences and workshops of mutual concerned topics; co-ordinating to develop research projects on natural disasters prevention and biodiversity or Sinology studies; exchanges in other mutual concerned academic fields.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Kim Son wished to associate the cooperation between VNU and Taiwanese partners with general research and training requirements of the two sides. He also thought of increasing the numbers of exchange students and strengthening cultural exchange apart from cooperating to train talents in science and technology.
