“VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities needs to be pioneer in the cause of innovation in higher education”
On September 14, 2012, USSH honorably received H.E.Mr. Truong Tan Sang – President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the University’s Opening Ceremony of 2012-2013 Academic Year.

Prof.Dr. Tran Quang Quy – Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Dr. Le Dinh Tien – Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Nguyen Giang Son – Deputy Director of the Presidential Office; Prof.Dr. Phung Huu Phu – Vice Chairman of Central Theoretical Council; Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan – VNU President, representatives of VNU functional departments as well as USSH leaders, staff, lecturers and students attended the ceremony.
On behalf of the University’s staff, scientists, lecturers and students, Rector Nguyen Van Khanh expressed his deep thanks to President Truong Tan Sang for his visit and attendance at the ceremony. This showed the deep concern of the Party and the State to USSH in particular and to the training of high quality human resources in general.
Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh emphasized that with its long-standing history, USSH had always been the leading university in training and scientific research, contributing to the national development. The University had obtained great achievements, and in the past academic year only, USSH was awarded many noble rewards by the State and Party, including 5 Ho Chi Minh Awards and State Awards in Science and Technology (making up 1/6 of the total awards of the country).
President Truong Tan Sang showed his pleasure of attending the opening ceremony at VNU USSH, one of the leading training and research centers in the field of social sciences and humanities. He highly appreciated the rich tradition and great contributions of USSH’s generations of lecturers, staff, faculties and students in the past development stage and expected for more scientific research projects of high quality and value from USSH as well as the close combination between scientific research and training. He urged USSH to pay special attention to building staff, especially lecturers, the decisive force for the training quality and prestige of the University.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan confirmed VNU’s endeavor in fulfilling the strategic missions for the new academic year and the years to come as 2012-2013 would be the first year for the implementation of the Law on Higher Education, the Educational Development Strategy, the Human Resources Development Strategy and the Planning for Human Resources Development in 2011-2020 period, the Party’s Central Committee’s Resolution on “Basic and comprehensive innovation in education – training and science – technology, and the guidelines of Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Science and Technology, other ministries, departments and branches”.
