VNU-SMP promoted new cooperation directions with U.Iowa
On October 5, 2012, VNU School of Medicine and Pharmacy (VNU-SMP) organized an online meeting with the University of Iowa, United States. Prof.Dr. Mai Trọng Nhuận – VNU President, Prof. Trương Việt Dũng – Rector of VNU SMP, Dr. Donna Hammond, Acting Dean of Carver College of Medicine, and representatives from some institutions under the University of Iowa were present at the meeting.

At the meeting, Prof. Trương Việt Dũng presented the directions and operations of the School in the coming time. He expected for suitable experiences and consultancy shared by the University of Iowa.
On his side, Prof.Dr. Mai Trọng Nhuận stressed that VNU-SMP was newly established in 2010, thus building partnership with worldwide universities would be vital for the development of the School. He urged the School to conduct cooperation activities with the University of Iowa in different aspects of staff-students exchange; inviting US professors and experts to be advisors in designing the training programs and training-research methods; carrying joint research projects of mutual concern, etc.
On behalf of the University of Iowa, Dr. Donna Hammond believed that training in combination with scientific research would be needed for the development of VNU-SMP. According to her, the Univeristy of Iowa always paid attention to establishing global partnership, hence, the University would provide their best support to VNU which contributed to strengthen the mutual development and tighten the cooperation relationship between the two universities.
The University of Iowa would organize some summer programs for sharing experiences; invite professors, experts, doctors or postgraduate students to come and support VNU in training and research; create good conditions for VNU staff attending research training in US. Besides, their experts would share experiences in establishing the hospitals, laboratories and research orientation.
In the near future, the two sides would sign in an MoU.
