University admission renovation based on competence assessment has been investigated and experimentally implemented in VNU over the past few years. Based on the learned experience, in 2014, VNU developed and designed its own university admission plan as one of the most important solutions to the implementation of Resolution 29 of the Party Central Committee’s 6th Session (Term XI). Candidates participating in the VNU entrance exams will have to take a competence assessment test organized in two rounds, one in early May and the other in late July. On the basis of the test scores, VNU will consider the admitting of candidates from high to low scores (to the minimum score prescribed by discipline and type of training). High school GPA is only one of the admission criteria. Those candidates who have gained the required scores in the competence assessment test will be accepted to VNU after obtaining the passing score in the national high school graduation examination prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training. Those candidates who previously graduated from high school can also register for the competence assessment test for their admission to VNU.
