The Republic of Iceland President’s visit to VNU and exchange with its students
On November 4, 2015, the Republic of Iceland President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson had talks with President Trương Tấn Sang and witnessed the signing of cooperation documents between the two countries at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.

After their talks, the two Presidents witnessed VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ and Reykjavík University President Ari Kristinn Jonsson signing a cooperation agreement, the first one of its kind between VNU and a university in Iceland.

 

 

According to this agreement, in the immediate future, VNU and Reykjavík University are to cooperate in such areas as students exchange, faculty and staff exchange, research information exchange, collaborative teaching and research, and cultural programs.

Also during his state-level visit to Vietnam, the Republic of Iceland President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson paid a visit to VNU and had a working session with its leaders. Also in here, he gave a talk to VNU’s students on the topic of “A Green Energy Economy: Lessons from Iceland”.

Expressing his thanks to VNU’s leaders for their respectful welcome, President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson affirmed that Iceland was willing to offer opportunities for Iceland’s universities, research institutes and academic organizations to discuss specific programs cooperation perspectives with VNU. He also affirmed that education cooperation was one of Iceland’s priorities.

 

 

Speaking at the meeting, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ said that the Republic of Iceland President, His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson’s visit played a significant role in promoting the cooperation between the two countries. He believed that the cooperation program between Reykjavík University and VNU would not only promote culture and science exchanges between the two universities but also contribute to the developing of bilateral relation and consolidate friendship between Vietnam and Iceland.

VNU has always put priority on the developing of long-term and trustworthy cooperation with prestigious universities, scientific and educational institutions in the world. VNU focuses on scientific research and technology transfer cooperation with domestic as well as foreign corporations and enterprises.

President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson emphasized that the Government of Iceland was willing to offer favourable conditions for Vietnamese students in general and VNU students in particular to study and do research at Iceland’s universities, including Reykjavík University.
