Final round of FameLab Vietnam 2017: Diversified and modern topics
On April 25, 2017, VNU Youth Union, VNU Student Affairs Association, and the British Council in Vietnam jointly organized the final round of the science communications contest for young talents nationwide to break down science, technology and engineering concepts into three minute presentations. This was the third time the competition had been organized in Vietnam.

One of the two VNU participants, Nguyễn Thị Hải Hoa – VNU University of Science, won the second prize with her presentation on cancer treatment method.

This year’s event gathered 12 participants who presented important and diversified scientific topics both on such modern technologies as cancer treatment method, malaria prevention, antibiotics use, biological print technology; and such common things in life as love, psychological test…

With the presentation on firefighting using Wolbachia bacteria versus Dengue, Pham Ha My from Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam became the winner of FameLab Vietnam 2017. Ha My will go to the UK to represent Vietnam to compete with the winners from over 30 countries in the International FameLab Competition 2017 to be held at the Cheltenham Science Festival in June, 2017.

Since its start in 2005 at the UK Cheltenham Science Festival, FameLab has become a successful training program using a competition format to get individuals, scientists, engineers and lecturers talking about science and has always encouraged them to connect with audiences through their scientific topics. Participants have three minutes to present any scientific, engineering, mathematical or medical topic of their choice.
