The 15th Cafe of VNU - VSL: "Developing a creative start-up ecosystem at VNU"
"Developing a creative start-up ecosystem at VNU” was the title of the 15th Cafe of VNU Scientist Link (VNU VSL) held on July 4, 2017 at VNU Talent Incubator and Startup Assistance Building.

At the program, managers from the Ministry of Science and Technology, VNU, the General Director of Hanoi Technology and Investment Development Joint Stock Company (BK-Holdings) and representatives of the Seed Support Fund, Innofund, shared and discussed useful information with VNU Scientist Link members.

Speaking at Café 15 program, VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hoàng Hải shared about VNU's contributions to the innovation and creativity of Vietnam's education system. VNU initiated the forming of a system of Specialized high schools, the Talent undergraduate programs ... VNU was also the initiator of the research and applied university concept in Vietnam. Recently, VNU has made a breakthrough innovation in successfully organizing the competence assessment test which had been transferred to the Ministry of Education and Training. With the foundation of basic science, in order to connect with the world's new trends, VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hoàng Hải wanted the delegates to share experiences, information and openly discuss coming innovations at VNU.

Dr. Phạm Hồng Quất - Director of the Department of Market and Sci-Tech Enterprise Development, Ministry of Science and Technology shared, according to Topica Founder Institute and Geektime, there were about 1,800 startups in Vietnam. However, since the issue of innovative entrepreneurship is a new one, there are no official statistics of state management agencies on the number of start-ups in Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyễn Hoàng Hải - Deputy Director of the Department of Technology Development and Application, Ministry of Science and Technology shared information on innovative start-up in Finland and proposed suggestions for Vietnam.

He said that the Internet of Things (IoT) had its roots in the manufacturing industry. According to him, innovation should be oriented towards early access to a thorough study of the toolkit for the developing of innovation conceptualization (For example: Design thinking). To realize the conceptualization, it is advisable to make use of the available knowledge to design the ideas of innovation not only based on scientific research but also from the society issues and demands. Considering the seven sources of innovative opportunity: the unexpected, the incongruity, process need, industry and market structure change, demographics, changes in perception, and new knowledge.

Mr. Nguyễn Hoàng Hải suggested that higher education institutions should take advantage of the existing research for innovation.

In the framework of VNU VSL 15th Café, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thúy Hiền -  coordinator of the project "Supporting the building of innovation polices and developing Business Incubators Project (BIPP)” shared information on seeking investment capital for start-up businesses, providing support for start-up businesses, supporting start-up entrepreneurs, etc.
