School of Aerospace Engineering: Realizing a Dream
On December 18, 2017, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) in collaboration with the Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel) held the launching ceremony of School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE).

VNU and Viettel Corporation have been in cooperation for many years and have achieved some significant results, contributing to a radical renovation of higher education, fostering talents for the country, especially cooperating in organizing the competence assessment test for VNU's regular full-time undergraduate admissions.

Approaching the requirements of the new industrial revolution, the two sides continue to cooperate in establishing the School of Aerospace Engineering for offering training programs in aerospace technology and developing comprehensive cooperation between VNU University of Engineering and Technology and Viettel Corporation.

SAE is a training, scientific research and technology transfer institution under VNU University of Engineering and Technology and also a subsidiary of Viettel Group.

This is a special cooperation model between a leading training and research centre and a most dynamic corporation of services - technology in Vietnam, creating favourable conditions for learning, teaching, practice, research; determining the output standards in research and training to meet the real needs of the country; and offering preferential policies to attract and train high quality human resources.

VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn said that for Aerospace Engineering - a high technology field that VNU UET couldn’t have launched in such a short time without cooperation from Viettel Corporation. VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn and Viettel Director General Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng expressed their belief that the SAE would operate well and meet the expectations of the Party and the State leaders, the people and the society.

SAE conducts training and provides highly qualified human resources in aerospace technology at undergraduate and graduate levels; researches and develops technologies and scientific products in the field of aerospace to meet the civil and security requirements of the country; provides consulting services, technology and knowledge transfer in the field of aerospace technology nationally and internationally. Besides training, SAE will launch some research orientations on image processing technology for UAV reconnaissance, satellite reconnaissance; UAV transmission technology; MEMS technology used in micro motor manufacture; optical technology applied to optical rotors; navigation and control technology; missiles and satellites ...

Along with the establishment of the School, VNU has approved the training program in aerospace technology. This is a standardized training program towards the world leading universities’ standards, focusing on basic skills training and the foundation technology of Industry 4.0.

The lecturers of VNU UET together with national and international experts (including experts from Viettel Group) will coordinate the teaching of this program. The contents of experiments and practice will be carried out in the aerospace research laboratories of VNU, Viettel Group and the Vietnam Space Centre. After 4.5 years of study, the student will receive the degree in Aerospace Engineering and have the opportunity to work, participate in projects on Aerospace in Viettel Group, the Vietnam Space Centre and other institutions.

The School’s first enrollment will begin in the second semester of Academic year 2017-2018. Target students are VUN UET first-year students majored in Information Technology and Electronic Technology, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.
