VNU and IBK: Promoting cooperation in training high quality human resources
On March 22, 2018, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn welcomed and had a working session with the Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) Chairman Kim Do Jin.

Chairman Kim Do Jin said that IBK was a Korean state-owned bank (the government holds 61.9% of IBK’s shares), with the main role of developing and supporting small and medium enterprises. Established in 1961, IBK has a total of 663 branches nationwide, with a total staff of over 13,500. In Vietnam, IBK has branches in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Strongly impressed by the history and achievements of VNU, IBK Chairman Kim Do Jin hoped that the two sides would strengthen cooperation in education and training, especially in the context of the Bank expanding its market as well as striving to become a 100% foreign-owned bank in Vietnam.

Stating that human resource development was one of IBK’s priorities, Chairman Kim Do Jin believed that cooperation with VNU would make it possible for IBK's staff to attend high quality and advanced management training programs. Also, he affirmed he would facilitate the promoting of cooperation in this field with VNU in the coming time.

Speaking at the meeting, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn said that as a big, prestigious influential bank in the world, the presence of IBK in Vietnam contributed important support for business as well as for development of economic cooperation between the two countries. VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn believed that the visit by the IBK Chairman accompanying the President of the Republic of Korea during his State visit  to Vietnam not only showed a big Korean business’ trust in a leading university in Vietnam but also contributed to the strengthening of the friendship between Vietnam and South Korea.

Informing that VNU was one of the biggest Korean language and cultural education institutions in Vietnam and had long-term cooperation with Korean partners, such as Seoul National University, Changwon National University, Pony Chung Foundation, Korea Research Foundation..., VNU President hoped that the bilateral cooperation would be strengthened. VNU President expected that Mr. Kim Do Jin, as the head of a large business, would deliver a presentation or lecture to VNU students of finance and banking. He also said that VNU would help select its undergraduates and graduates for apprenticeship at IBK. Besides, VNU would support the organization of short courses on Vietnam’s culture, country, people and business characteristics for IBK employees.

At the meeting, IBK Chairman Kim Do Jin awarded VNU 500 million VND. Expressing his gratitude to IBK for its   support, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn said that VNU would use the funding to provide scholarships for outstanding students as well as hoped for a scholarship named after IBK in the near future.
