APhO 2019 features two medalists from VNU University of Science High School for Gifted Students
The 20th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2019), held in Australia from May 5 to May 13, 2019, attracted participants from 22 countries and territories. All the eight Vietnamese participants won prizes including 2 silver medals, 5 bronze medals and an honourable mention. Among the prize-winners, Nguyen Xuan Ung and Nguyen Xuan Tan, 12th graders from VNU University of Science High School for Gifted Students won a silver medal and a bronze medal, respectively.

The other prize-winners were: Trinh Duy Hieu, a 12th grader from Bac Giang High School for Gifted Students, a silver medalist; Le Viet Hoang, a 12th grader from Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted (Ha Nam province), Nguyen Khanh Linh, a 12th grader from Lam Son High School for the Gifted (Thanh Hoa province), Tran Xuan Tung, a 12th grader from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School and Le Cong Minh Hieu, a 12th grader from Hue High School for the Gifted, bronze medalists; and Le Quang Huy, a 12th grader from Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted (Ha Nam province), was awarded an honourable  mention.

Out of the 165 candidates participating in the 2019 Asian Physics Olympiad, 87 (52.72%) candidates won prizes including 9 gold medals, 16 silver medals, 33 bronze medals and 29 honourable mentions. 

By performance in terms of the number of gold and silver medals won, the Vietnamese team ranked fifth, following China, Russia, Israel and Taiwan.
