IPhO 2019 features a gold medalist from VNU University of Science (HUS) High School for Gifted Students
All the five Vietnamese team members participating in the 50th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Israel won medals including three golds and two silvers.


The gold medal winners are Nguyen Xuan Ung, a 12th grader from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students; Tran Xuan Tung, a 12th grader from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, and Nguyen Khanh Linh, a 12th grader from Lam Son High School for the Gifted  (Thanh Hoa Province).

The silver medal winners are Le Viet Hoang, a 12th grader from Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted (Ha Nam Province) and Trinh Duy Hieu, a 12th grader from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted.

The IPhO 2019 took place in Israel from July 7 to July 15 with the participation of 360 contestants from 78 countries and territories.

Prof. Dang Duc Vuong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Technical Physics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Deputy Head of the IPhO 2019 Vietnamese delegation said that this year's competition had a total of 78 participating national delegations. According to the national delegation leaders, this year's problems were more challenging than before and required higher creativity.

With the five medals, Vietnam placed fourth behind China, the Republic of Korea and Russia.

Previously, at the 2019 Asian Physics Olympiad, Nguyen Xuan Ung was also one of the two Vietnam’s silver medalists.
