JSAMD – The only Vietnam journal of science features in the world-leading Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)
On December 16, 2019, VNU Journal of Science: Advanced Materials and Devices – JSAMD, published by VNU in cooperation with Elsevier Publishing House (The Netherlands) was selected by Clarivate Analytics Conglomerate to officially feature in the Web of Science SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded) (formerly, the Institute for Scientific Information - ISI).

Thus, JSAMD is currently the only Vietnamese journal indexed in the Web of Science SCIE, whereas such ASEAN countries as Thailand and Malaysia currently have 8 and 15 journals, respectively, indexed in the Web of Science SCI.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc, JSAMD was first published in March 2016. In July 2017, it was accepted into the ISI's Emerging Sources Citation Index and was included on Scopus in April 2018. Those have been rigorous evaluation rounds for JSAMD to be considered for featuring in SCIE.

JSAMD focuses on publishing research areas related to advanced materials and components, including: biological materials, ecogreen materials, energy materials, metamaterials, nanomaterials and composite, smart materials, magnetic materials, dielectric materials, semiconductor materials, superconducting materials, components and applications ... These are the strength and priority of VNU in particular and of Vietnam in general.

To date, the journal has published 257 research works. Early on, in June 2019, JSAMD's articles on magnetic, electronic and optical materials were ranked Q1 and those on applied materials and biomaterials were ranked Q2 by SCImago.

Vietnamese authors’ articles accepted for publication in JSAMD account for about 20%, the rest come from other countries, such as India, the United States, Japan, China, France, England and Russia, … Among the foreign authors, there are scientists from excellent universities and research centres, such as Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS - France), ...

Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc also said that the current rejection rate of JSAMD had reached 65%, which ensured a good opportunity for the journal to receive high-quality research papers.

As scheduled, in June 2020, Clarivate Analytics will publish the 2019 Journal Index Factor. JSAMD is expected to have an impact index of nearly 3.5.

SCIE is a database of more than 9,200 leading scientific and technological journals in the world with 178 specilizations, more than 53 million articles and nearly 2 billion references dating from 1900. It is an honour for Vietnam to have one science journal, the JSAMD, indexed in this database.
