Developing a green financial system to promote green economy in Vietnam
On June 7th 2019, VNU University of Economics and Business cooperated with University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and National Economics University to organize a national workshop on "Establishment and development of green financial system – scientific evidences and lessons learned” in Ho Chi Minh City.

The workshop was organized within the framework of the state-level project "Developing a green financial system to promote green economy in Vietnam" leaded by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu - Dean of Faculty of Finance and Banking, VNU University of Economics and Business.

Attending the workshop, there were experts, policy makers, bank leaders from the State Bank of Ho Chi Minh, Deposit Insurance of Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Banking Association, IFC, ICAEW, leaders of Nam A Bank, Saigon Industrial and Commercial Bank, Agribank, Sacombank, HDBank and numerous researchers and lecturers from University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, National Economics University, Banking Academy Ho Chi Minh City, University of Marketing Finance and VNU University of Economics and Business.

The presentation of speakers included (i) Dr. Hoang Xuan Hoa from Government Office - "Policy framework for growth and green economic development in Vietnam", (ii) Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu - "Green credit - Vietnam practice and development trend”, (iii) Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet, Vice Rector of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City - "PPP model in developing finance for climate change”.

The discussion at the workshop focused on the role of the government in development of green financial system and green economy in Vietnam, in which the government develops policies to support businesses, green investment and promotes the construction of green banks, green investment funds, green capital mobilization, especially the role of PPP public investment in mobilizing resources for economic development in context of climate change in Vietnam today.

The workshop ended but opened up many opportunities for exchange and promoting of research ideas for a greener economy, in which the green financial system plays a central role.
