Much appreciation from Northwestern provinces for the North-West Program

In 2019, the National Project for sustainable development in the Northern Midlands and Mountains (North West Program in short) organized meetings with the People's Committees of 14 Northwestern Provinces which were both research requesters and beneficiaries of the research results. Though implemented for not too long a time, the program has already received much appreciation from the Northwestern provinces for its applicability and effectiveness.

The program has helped to effectively build, develop and employ the local human resources; to attract human resources from other localities and promote the strengths of the local natural resources, science and technology in the Northwest sustainable development strategy; to innovate, diversify and improve the living standards of the ethnic minorities in the region as well as to ensure defense and security in the Northwest; to ensure the harmony between sustainable economic growth and social justice among rapid development, preserving cultural values and environmental protection; to strengthen the linkage among ministries, central agencies, Northwestern localities and VNU as well as science and technology partners.

In the coming time, along with the reviewing and evaluating of Phase 1 results, VNU and the North West Program will continue to provide consultancy for the localities to assess the implementation of the local Party Congresses’ Resolutions for the 2015-2020 period and to suggest ideas for the development of the local socio-economic strategy for the 2021-2025 period.

On June 14, 2019, VNU in collaboration with the Central Economic Commission held the scientific workshop "Research results of the National Project for sustainable development in the Northern Midlands and Mountains to consult the reviewing of the 15-year implementation of Resolution 37-NQ/TW”.

On December 14, 2019, VNU leaders attended and gave a speech at the workshop "Socio-economic development and defense and security ensurance in the Northern Midlands and Mountains up to 2030, with a vision to 2045". The workshop was organized to provide general advice on the implementation of Resolution 37-NQ/TW dated July 1, 2014 of the 9th Politburo on socio-economic development directions and ensurance of national defense and security in the Northern Midlands and Mountains up to 2020.
