2020 ASEAN-Korea Youth Summit
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF), the Republic of Korea in cooperation with the National Council of Youth Organizations in Korea (NCYOK) and ASEAN University Network (AUN) is going to organise the ASEAN-Korea Youth Summit on 25-27 November 2020 via KT-bizmeka online system. The ASEAN-Korea Youth Summit is organised following the statement of the 'ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit 2019' in Busan, emphasizing the need for promoting exchanges and strengthening cooperation in the youth sector between ASEAN and Korea.

They aim to bring together 110 student representatives from 10 ASEAN Member States and the Republic of Korea to discuss the policies, mechanisms, and instruments of ASEANKorea cooperation, including the implemD   6+V U 9 0x   three dimensions; People, Peace, Prosperity. The Youth Summit also aims to deliver a set of recommendations proposed and adopted by the youth of ASEAN-Korea, which will submit to the ASEAN Senior officials Meeting on Youth (SOMY) and other related forums through the ASEAN Secretariat. As part of the programme, students are requested to attend the orientation, break out group discussion, and ice-breaking session in the second week of October, as well as the pre-activities on 2, 23, 24 November 2020 and the official programme on 25-27 November 2020. The pre-activities and official programme will be held at the designated location on 23-27 November 2020.  

There are 2 types of Local Organizers - the first type is the onsite local host universities (Type 1: Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam), and the second type is the countries that do not have onsite local host universities due to the cause of pandemic. Student participants in these countries will participate in the event from their places. (Type 2: Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore).

Although the role of the local organizers may vary according to the 2 types of organizers above, their primary role is to achieve the ultimate goal of supporting participants to engage in the will host the venue for the 10 students from Vietnam during the pre-activities and official programme on 23-27 November 2020, and to nominate up to 04 students to be selected as your university representatives to participate in the programme.


1. Objectives

A. Strengthening youth exchanges between ASEAN and Korea by forming solidarity and

close relationship

B. Strengthening global capabilities through subject-related activities and exchange of shared

views and opinions among youths from 11 countries

C. Providing opportunities for youth contribution to the development of the ASEAN-Korea

community by exploring a common agenda and drawing cooperative measures

D. Stabilizing the event as a representative international exchange involving youths from

ASEAN and Korea through successful and meaningful events

2. Background

A. The need for promoting exchanges in the youth sector has emerged as a result of

improving the level of cooperation with ASEAN, including the implementation of the New

Southern Policy since 2017

B. Emphasis of participation and cooperation in the youth sector through Article 26 of Co-

Chairs’ Statement of the 2019 ASEAN-Republic of KOREA Commemorative Summit (Article

26. acknowledges that ASEAN and the ROK have continued youth exchanges, we looked

forward to strengthening youth cooperation)

C. Establishing online events as an alternative measure to holding offline events due to the

limitations by current situation with COVID-19

- Topic 3: Understanding and Overcoming Individual/Group/Community-level Discrimination,

Isolation and Injustice (e.g. gender discrimination, generation gap, etc.)

- Topic 4: Social Integration and Peace-making Efforts through the Lens of Functions and

Dysfunctions of Digital Media

C. PROSPERITY: Prosperity of ASEAN-Korea and Youth Responsibility

- Topic 5: Sharing Activities (“Nanum”) for Co-Prosperity: No Citizen Left Behind for Solidarity

7. Qualifications for Participation

A. Youths of Korea and ASEAN nationality

B. Youths between the ages of 18 and 26 with strong interest in the topics

C. Youths who have a good command of English (official language for the event)
