11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

This thesis provides new insights on a banking model built in accordance with modern banking standards, in the context of a market economy deeply integrated into the global market, large inflows of foreign aids, the Vietnam War and strong economic ties between Republic of Vietnam and other countries. The thesis thus will be a reference to policy-makers in the efforts to develop the market economy and reform the banking system of Vietnam today.

The thesis provides a comprehensive view of the financial and banking system in the south of Vietnam, focusing on the follow key aspects: the process of development, framework of organization, operations, role and position of the banking system in the economy from 1954 to 1975, one of the most important parts of the economic history of South Vietnam.

This thesis highlights key features of the banking system and its financial functions in the market economy and economic growth of South Vietnam in that period, as well as many shortcomings still remaining in the banking system in the period in question.

This thesis contributes to enriching the scholarly literature for the teaching and study of the history of Vietnam in general and the economic history of Vietnam in the period between 1954 and 1975 in particular.
