11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- The role of brucite layers modified by transition metal ions (Co2+) and molybdate anions intercalated into the brucite layers of Mg-Al hydrotalcite in the selective oxidation of styrene with air have been indicated.

- Co2+ ions are stabilized and posited in the brucite layers. Cobalt cations in the hydrotalcite framework exhibited a high selective oxidation of styrene to benzaldehyde and styrene oxide. Extra-lattice cobalt ions in Mg-Al-MoO4-LDH catalysts tend to undergo the oxidation of styrene to benzoic acid.

- MoO42- anions are highly active for the styrene oxidation reaction. Tetrahedral MoO42- ions in the interlayer region of brucite layers (Me-OH) act as the active centers for styrene epoxidation reaction, while the molybdates, polymolybdates show the activity to convert styrene into benzaldehyde.

12. Practical applicability, if any: Mg-Co-Al-CO3 and Mg-Al-MoO4 catalysts might have been used as catalysts for the oxidation of styrene with air to produce styrene oxide and benzaldehyde. These products are valuable materials for the pharmaceutical, favor, dyeing, agrochemical, cosmetic, chemical and some other additives industries.

13. Further research directions, if any: Developing hydrotalcite catalysts modified by other transition metals and applying their solids in the oxidation of other aromatic hydrocarbons.
