11. Brief description of research:

- By means of various research techniques such as statistics, analysis, compare-contrast method and on the basis of 682 character names collected in works by Lo Tan, Ba Kim, Lao Xa and 509 character names in works by Nam Cao, Nguyen Cong Hoan, Ngo Tat To, the dissertation provides sufficient data to classify and analyze character names in the light of some theories such as nominal, structure, meaning, cultural significance, artistic function. Hence, features of character names as well as some contributing factors to generating a character name are thoroughly clarified. An attempt is made to point out the similarities and differences in features and cultural significance through character names in works by Lo Tan, Ba Kim, Lao Xa, Nam Cao, Nguyen Cong Hoan, Ngo Tat To, typical representatives of contemporary literature in China and Vietnam.

12. Real-life application

- The result can serve the theoretical basis for nominal-related researches ( human names and character names in literary works) and provide analysis of literary devices to generate a character name in literary works…

- The result can be applied to Chinese language and culture specialized departments in Vietnam encompassing teaching Chinese contemporary literature as well as teaching Vietnamese language to Chinese students
