11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

The thesis is intended to research, compare, indicate differences and similarities with respect to structure, capacity of word combination and semantic relation between words in the group of emotional words in Chinese and Vietnamese in the aspect of structure and semantics. The research has learnt about several important conclusions as follows:

For the structure, emotional words in Chinese and Vietnamese are mainly formed by some emotional semantemes in combination with other semantemes. The group of emotional words “love”, “hate”, “happy”, “sad” in Chinese has eight constitution methods. Based on the separation of word structure in Chinese, there are seven combination method for emotional words.

For the capacity of word structure, the group of emotional words in Chinese and Vietnamese is able to combine with negative adverds, grade adverds, grade adjuncts, objects…When it is combined with negative adverds, for occurred emotions, it is possible to use “” negative alone in Chinese, meanwhile, it is impossible to only use “no”, “not yet” in Vietnamese. When it is in combination with causal objects, it is likely for objects to directly stand behind emotional words in Chinese. In Vietnamese, between emotional words and causal phrase, it is usually used connective words such as “because ”. Emotional words in Vietnamese can be directly associated with grade adjunct phrase. In Chinese, it shall be used structural particle “” between adjunct phrase and emotional words.

In the aspect of meaning relation, the major relation between emotional words in Chinese is the meaing addition relation (the meaning of two semantemes constitutes word’s meaning), the second is the meaning supplementation relation (word’s meaning is based on the meaning of the central word in association with supplementation-expressed semanteme, decorating the meaning of the central word, constituting the meaning of new word). For Vietnamese, on the contrary, the key relation is the meaning supplementation relation, the second is the meaning addition relation.

In the process of statistics, it is found that a great amount of sensational semantemes such as tough, taste…in combination with semantemes expressing the parts of the body constitute emotional word. The selection to semantemes expressing the parts of the body has both the similarity and the difference between two languages. This is to rely on the feeling of emotional vibrations and cognitive culture of the people in two countries established.

In general, the group of emotional words in Chinese and Vietnamese has a lot of similarities, few differences.

12. Practical applicability:

The research results provide the rationale to emotional words-related researches.

It is applicable for the research results of the thesis in the Chinese research, teaching and application:

The research has provided a relatively sufficient system on structure, capacity of word combination and semantic relation between words in the group of emotional words in Chinese and Vietnamese. Comments and conclusions learnt provide Chinese learners, researchers and teachers with useful linguistic material and reference, helping foreign language learners and teachers apply this group of words efficiently in the communication, translation.

Semantic networks established in the thesis also provide dictionary compiling process, machinery translation applications…with important reference on linguistics.

Researching remaining groups of emotional words (angry, frightened…).

Researching, comparing the transfer method to emotional words from Chinese to Vietnamese and vice versa.
