11. Summary of the new findings of the dissertation

- The dissertation provides a basis theory about livelihoods and the relationship between livelihoods and ethnic cultures in the area of ​​study.

- The dissertation makes clear about cultural aspects of hilly area through cultural adaptation of San Diu people from tradition to present.

- The dissertation analyzes the causes and impacts on the livelihood shifting and changing the ethnic cultural life. As the result, it contributes to the process of policy making and solutions to develop sustainable livelihood as well as preserve and promote cultural values ​​of the San Diu people.

12. Applicability:

- The dissertation contributes to discussions on livelihood of hilly areas of San Diu people in Thai Nguyen province by adopting interdisciplinary and regional studies approaches, diversifying the existing literature body including research using these new approaches to examine different areas/regions in the land of Vietnam.

- Discussions and conclusions drawn from the research are somewhat significant to local governments and managers in planning and implementing social policies to sustainably develop hilly areas.

- Dissertation and material collected thorough the research processare useful sources of material to further teaching and researching activities.

13. Further research directions:

- Further research on the shift of livelihoods of San Diu people in hilly areas and the impacts of livelihood changes in the social and cultural appearance of San Diu people.

- Expanding the research scale to compare the livelihoods of San Diu people in hilly areas in Thai Nguyen province with a number of other research subjects such as San Chi, Nung, and Dao people in hilly areas of provinces such as Bac Giang and Bac Kan, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Vinh Phuc ...

- Adaptation of residents in the hilly areas in the process of changing in economic, cultural, and social transformation.

- The role of local knowledge in economic, cultural, social development in hilly areas.

- The role of hilly areas for current socio-economic development.

- Preserving and promoting the cultural values ​​of people in hilly areas in  the context of current urbanization.

- Sustainable development of hilly areas to ensure livelihood development in parallel with preserving cultural values.
