Vietnam - Japan University Groundbreaking Ceremony
On 20th December 2014, Mr. Trương Tấn Sang – member of the Vietnam Communist Party Politburo, Chairman of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Mr. Tô Huy Rứa - member of the VCP Politburo, Secretary of the Central Committee of the VCP, Head of Personnel Department of the Central Committee of the VCP, Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Parliamentary Friendship; Mr. Vũ Đức Đam - member of the Central Committee of the VCP, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as well as leaders and representatives of Hanoi City and some ministries and departments attended Vietnam - Japan University Groundbreaking Ceremony at VNU Construction Zone in Hoà Lạc, Thạch Thất, Hanoi.

Present at the ceremony from the Japanese side were Mr Takebe Tsutomu - Special Advisor to the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians; Mr Hiroshi Fukada – Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam; and Mr. Mutsuya Mori – Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam.

On 21st July, 2014, the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Mr. Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, signed Decision No. 1186/QD-TTg on establishing VNU Vietnam - Japan University.  On 30th August 2014, in Document No. 354/TB-VPCP, the Prime Minister agreed to assign VNU with the task of being the construction project owner for VNU Vietnam - Japan University. VNU Vietnam - Japan University is located in the Hòa Lạc a the total area of ​​75 hectares and with a total investment capital of more than 365 million USD. The university’s physical facilities are expected to be completed in 2020.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ said in recent time VNU was very active in collaborating with the related ministries, departments and Japanese partners to implement the Vietnam-Japan University project. VNU President also emphasized that the establishment of Vietnam - Japan University, with modern facilities and with the participation of leading universities in Japan and in the world, will be a good opportunity for VNU to perfect its multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral model, to develop its advanced technology sectors and interdisciplinary sciences, to increase its internationalization indicators and to enhance its international rankings.

Vũ Đức Đam highly appreciated the significance of the Vietnam - Japan University project for the development of human resources in Vietnam and the "broad strategic partnership" cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.
Mr. Toshihiro Nikkei – Chairman of the Council of the Liberal Democratic Party and Chairman of the Association of Vietnam - Japan MPs Friendship Coalition sent to the groundbreaking ceremony a congratulatory letter “expressing the hope that the Japanese constructors will collaborate with their Vietnamese partners to build a world-famous university with Asian origin - with the goal of connecting dreams and hope of not only Vietnamese youth but also Asian youth”.

 


 
Mr. Hiroshi Facade – Japanese Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Vietnam highly appreciated VNU’s preparation for the construction of Vietnam – Japan University, especially for the opening of a master programme in September 2016, developing the curriculum as well as recruiting lecturers, and attracting investment from enterprises.
Mr. Mori Mutsuya - Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam  promised that JICA will do its best to implement the master programme in the early stages at Vietnam – Japan University in 9 9th March 2016.
In the presence of leaders from the VCP and the Vietnamese Government, leaders from ministries, VNU’s leaders signed cooperative agreements with its partners in the framework of the Vietnam-Japan University project.
Signing the agreement between VNU and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on training cooperation, promoting the cooperation in the process Vietnam – Japan University’s implementation project, consulting research and technology evaluation as required by business, developing new technologies, and establishing of joint research centers.
Signing the agreement between VNU and the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park Management Board on cooperating in education, scientific research and technology transfer.
Signing the agreement between and Osaka (Japan) on co-preparing the training programme of Vietnam - Japan University.
