The cooperation between VNU and foreign partners covers a wide range of activities, including international research programs, scholar and student exchanges, study tours, international conferences, and especially the education cooperation programs in which VNU is a pioneer. In 2002, to develop and coordinate these education cooperation programs, VNU has established International School (IS-VNU), a bridge between international universities and Vietnam’s fast growing education market.
As the youngest member of VNU, the mission of IS-VNU is to deliver undergraduate and graduate training programs in foreign languages and in cooperation with foreign universities. Starting the first training program in Russian in 2002, IS-VNU now offers more than ten undergraduate programs in English, Russian, French and Chinese, one Master’s program in English, and quite a few short courses in IT, Law, Marketing and Foreign languages. Our partners include ECU (Australia), HELP (Malaysia), UEL (UK), TRU (Canada), Chung quing Transportation University (China), Tambov State Technical University (Russia), Lyon 2, Paris XI, Nantes (France), Bemedjito name just a few.
Our cooperation programs have a great flexibility that allows our students to choose between different universities, countries, as well as fields and formulas of studies. Among other advantages of our cooperation programs are low student’s cost, continuous contact between the school and students’ families, and especially a pre-university language course that help Vietnamese students to overcome the linguistic barrier, which might be their greatest obstacle.
Intrinsically, our Cooperation Programs can be seen as education import and export. Here, IS-VNU imports - and foreign universities export - academic programs and technology to meet socio-economic needs of Vietnam. From the point of view of foreign investors, Vietnam, with its 85 million population and a booming economy, is becoming a huge education market. From the Vietnamese point of view, thanks to these international cooperation programs, Vietnam’s education system is diversified and improved toward regional and international standards. And that is a step towards full integration into the world.
The cooperation model between IS-VNU and foreign universities during the last five years has proved to be effective. But to strengthen and develop further our cooperation, we need not only management stills and a strong leadership, but also a long-term strategy, which, in its turn requires scientific researches into Vietnam’s education market, socio-economic tendencies of the world, as well as international experiences. It is with this vision that IS-VNU organizes this scientific conference.

I strongly believe that under the direction of VNU’s Board and thanks to wider cooperation with our partner universities, IS-VNU will continue to grow.
