A VNU scientist received 2015 Tạ Quang Bửu Award
On May 16, 2015, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized the 2015 Tạ Quang Bửu Award conferring ceremony on 3 scientists having excellent projects and 1 young scientist – the author of excellent scientific works in 2015.

Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam awarded the prizes and presented flowers to congratulate the scientists (Prof.Dr.Sc.  Đinh Dũng is the fourth from the left).

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyễn Quân, VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hữu Đức, representatives of ministries, departments, agencies and prestigious scientists from institutes, universities and research institutions throughout the country. At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyễn Quân, Academician Prof. Nguyễn Văn Hiệu and Prof. Hoàng Tụy presented flowers, the Award certificates and rewards to the four outstanding scientists.

Prof.Dr.Sc. Đinh Dũng – VNU Information Technology Institute with the project “Approximate and restore huge dimension signal on the coarse mesh", was one of the three 2015 Tạ Quang Bửu Award winners for outstanding achievements.

Tạ Quang Bửu Award, an annual award of the Ministry of Science and Technology, is aimed at encouraging and honoring those scientists who have outstanding achievements in basic research in the fields of natural sciences and engineering, to push basic scientific research in particular and Vietnam’s science and technology in general up to the international level, paving the way for the integration and development of Vietnam’s science and technology. This is the second year the Ministry of Science and Technology has offered Tạ Quang Bửu Award to scientists and also for the two consecutive years VNU’s scientists have been honored with this honorable award.

The idea of building a mathematical model based on very sparse information, while ensuring the necessary accuracy and the idea of building efficient and feasible algorithms for disaster recovery led Prof.Dr.Sc. Đinh Dũng to the studied issues. He completed this scientific project when turning 60. He hoped that there would be young scientists receiving the award at the coming ceremonies.

Prof.Dr.Sc. Đinh Dũng is the author of the project “Approximate and restore huge dimension signal on the coarse mesh", one of the most important contributions to the general problem of multivariate approximation, the link between the classic multivariate function approximation theory and modern problems of computational mathematics. The Multivariate function approximation theory - the basis of computational mathematics and computer science, has many applications in the numerical solution of partial differential equations, image processing and signal recovery. The study results were published in Foundations of Computational Mathematics, one of Top 5 world leading journals in the field of Computational Mathematics ranked by SCImago.
