Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI): Transferring knowledge, together forming core human resources
On June 13, 2015, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ welcomed and had a working session with MPEI Rector Rogalev Nicolay Dmitrievich.

At the reception, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ congratulated Moscow Power Engineering Institute on receiving Vietnam Government’s honorable awards including the First-class Labour Order and Friendship Order on the occasion of MPEI’s 85th Foundation Anniversary.

The two sides also discussed the details of joint training cooperation for forming core human resources for society.

In November 2014, VNU president Phùng Xuân Nhạ assigned VNU International School (VNU IS) to design Project “Undergraduate joint training program in Informatics and Computer Engineering with MPEI”. In accordance with the signed agreement, VNU IS has finalized the Project training program with 4 years’ standard training time, 134 credits total and degrees awarded by VNU. The training program also allows students to study under Mode 3+1 (the first three years in Vietnam and the final year in Russia) or Mode 2+2 to be awarded MPEI’s degrees.

By May 21, 2015, the VNU-level Evaluation Board had approved the above-named program. VNU IS has finalized the Project and is currently getting things ready to submit it to VNU for approval and year 2015 admissions permission.

VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ proposed the seeking of scholarship packages, extensive publicity of the program to attract excellent students, thereby forming a proficient core scientific contingent, inheriting good relations traditions between the Russian Federation and Vietnam. VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ also proposed MPEI to cooperate with VNU ULIS Faculty of Russian Linguistics and Culture to offer scholarships for the faculty’s students to attend the program for graduating as computer engineers fluent in Russian in the near future.

MPEI Rector Rogalev Nicolay Dmitrievich extended his thanks to VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ for the warm welcome as well as high appreciation of MPEI and remarked that the event was a good beginning for a sustainable long-term bilateral cooperation.

After the reception, MPEI Rector Rogalev Nicolay Dmitrievich and his delegation had a reunion with MPEI’s Vietnamese alumni.

Over the past years, more than 500 bachelors, masters and experts from Vietnam have graduated from MPEI; 120 PhDs and 9 Doctors of Science from Vietnam have successfully defended their theses in MPEI. In addition, there have been more than 150 Vietnamese experts on practicum in MPEI.
