Speaking at the ceremony, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn stated that, in order to develop high-intelligence products, in early 2016, VNU issued the Planning of the VNU key laboratory system for the 2016 – 2020 period, with which seven key laboratories had so far been established.

VNU President also stressed that the established VNU key laboratories aimed at developing their science and technology potentials, promoting research capacity of VNU’s strong research teams and cutting-edge research centres. Moreover, these key laboratories are in a position to implement national, international and VNU’s focal science and technology tasks as well as national science and technology priorities. 

VNU President requested the newly-established laboratory to both develop and attract scientific resources to ensure its sustainable development. He also proposed the inviting of a competent foreign expert to co-direct the laboratory’s research management.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Trần Việt Thanh advised that Vietnam was in need of laboratories fully-equipped with analytical tools and analytical procedures for giving prompt accurate answers to relevant questions.

The Deputy Minister expected more key laboratories to be established at other prestigious training and research institutions like VNU. “These key laboratories along with those of relevant ministries and industries would be able to answer difficult questions about environment and food quality”, he said.

VNU Key Laboratory of Analytical technology of Environmental quality and Food safety control has been established based on the success in analytical science and application of Prof. Phạm Hùng Việt-led research team under VNU HUS Centre for Environmental Technology and Sustainable Development. The named key laboratory’s objective is to publish its research results in high quality journals as well as to apply them to real life.
