QS World University Rankings: Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) remains among the world’s top 1,000 universities
On June 19, 2019, Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings – UK announced the ranking of the world’s top 1,000 universities in 2020 (QS World University Rankings - QS WUR 2020). Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) maintains its position in the group of 801 - 1000 best universities. However, VNU's ranking scores have increased significantly, placing VNU in the group of 75% of the world's leading universities (previously ranked, VNU was listed in the group of 78.5%).

QS WUR 2020 evaluated 1,620 educational institutions from 82 countries, of which 1,001 were ranked, 50 universities participated for the first time, 94,000 feedbacks from scientists were collected, 45,000 responses from recruiters were used, 83 million quotes from 13 million articles in the 2013-2018 period were analyzed and 1.5 million nominations from scholars and 240,000 nominations by employers were given. This year, together with VNU, Hanoi, VNU, Ho Chi Minh City has remained in the named ranking.

The 6 metrics used to compile the QS WUR are as follows: Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation (10%), Faculty/Student Ratio (20%), Citations per Faculty (20%), International Faculty Ratio (5%) and International Student Ratio (5%).

Regarding ranking by criterion, VNU is still in the group of 500+ on Academic Reputation. The score by this criterion is higher than the previous year's evaluation (14.0 compared to 12.0).

In Southeast Asia, 20 Malaysian universities were ranked, of which Malaya University was ranked 70th; Thailand had 8 ranked higher education institutions, of which Chulalongkorn University had the best rank of 247; The Philippines had 4 ranked higher education institutions, of which the Philippines University had the best rank of 356; Indonesia had 9 ranked higher education institutions, of which Indonesia University had the best rank of 296.

Globally, the United States continues to be the nation of the world's leading universities, with 5 universities ranked in top 10, of which Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) holds the No. 1 position for 8 consecutive years; Stanford University (2nd), Harvard University (3rd), California Institute of Technology (Caltech - 5th) and the University of Chicago (10th).
