11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

(1) The thesis uses the Bat algorithm for synthesizing array factors of linear array antennas that meet the requirement of sidelobe level compression by the methods: amplitude-only control and inter-distance control. Then, the thesis proposes a method for the development of a series-fed network (one input and 2N outputs) that meet the amplitude excitation weights and inter-distance distribution gotten from the Bat algorithm.

(2) Propose a method to develop linear antenna arrays based on the proposed series-fed network in two case studies, as follows:

i) A 10 Vivaldi antenna array which has a high gain of 16.5 dBi and a low sidelobe level of -25 dB to -27 dB in the bandwidth of 140 MHz (3.45-3.59 GHz).

ii) A 10 double-sided printed dipole (DSPD) antenna array which has a high gain of 17 dBi, a bandwidth of 570 MHz (3.26-3.83 GHz), and a low first sidelobe level of -40 dB at the center frequency of 3.5 GHz.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The solution and progress of design new series-fed network can be used for designing linear antenna arrays for differrent requirements of SLL suppression and null placement.

The developed antenna arrays in the thesis can be used in wireless systems opreating in the frequency band of 3.5 GHz such as fixed, mobile and radiolocation. They can meet the demand of sidelobe optimisation for handling transmitting or receiving radio interference when these wireless systems use sharing frequency spectrum.

13. Further research directions, if any:

Develop a method to apply the Bat algorithm on designing and optimizing a feeding network of linear antenna array by integrating this algorithm into a simulation software and/or connecting multi simulation software.

Research and develop a linear antenna array with a high gain, a wideband and low SLL using the complex excitation weight control technique.
