Restudy of Mesofavosites schouppei POTTHAST & OEKENTORP 1988 (Emsian-Eifelian boundary in SE Morrocco) and of Pachyfavosites pseudoseptatus OEKENTORP 1975 (Emsian of Asturias/N Spain) shows that M. schouppei has to be assigned to Striatoporella RUKHIN 1938 because of the typical growth form, the peripheral thickenings of the walls and the development of spines. P. pseudoseptatus has been assigned to Pachyfavosites on the basis of its strikingly thick walls. Diagenetic processes may result in secondary microstructures, for example the arrangement of carbonate fibers. Therefore, wall thickness is useless as a diagnostic feature. In this view, P. pseudoseptatus corresponds very well with other representatives of the genus Riphaeolites.
