Welcoming the delegation were HUS Rector Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Duy Cam and leaders of faculties and departments.
Crown Prince Akishino, the second son of the Japanese Emperor, has a passion for research on animals. Taking over his father’s work, he is known as a catfish specialist and ornithology passionate person. He participated in fieldwork in Indonesia and China about jungle fowls in 1993 and 1994. In this visit to HUS, he was specially interested in HUS’s animal museum - the world-famous and unique museum in Vietnam. Currently, the museum exhibited over 2,000 specimen of rare animals of Vietnam and the world. Especially, the goby specimen offered to Vietnam by the Japanese Emperor during his research period at Can Tho was also displayed here since 1974.
The Prince hoped to open cooperation opportunity for research fields of biology and its related disciplines, particularly in ornithology, with famous scientists including Prof. Ha Dinh Duc, Prof. Mai Dinh Yen, Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Xuan Huan, etc. He offered one rare chicken specimen to exhibit and serve in scientific research.
Over the past years, especially since 2000, HUS has established cooperation relationship with various Japanese universities, research institutes, companies, and organizations. Apart from the relationships realized by MoUs, professional exchange activities among scientists between HUS and Japanese universities were implemented. The “Core University” Project on Environmental Earth Science and Technology attracted 9 universities from Japan, 6 universities and research institutes from Vietnam including HUS. The project lasted 10 years with the total expense of about 2.5 million USD. During the implementation of the project, 291 turns of staff were sent to Japan to do research. Also within the framework of the project, 9 doctors and 9 masters were trained; 263 research works were published and 10 international science workshops were organized.
