Improving the quality of comprehensive education and training, developing learners’ qualities, vision, competencies and skills

VNU has issued and implemented policies to innovate training content, curricula and teaching methods towards enhancing students’ competencies and practical skills, etc. VNU’s member units linked training with the labour market, actively grasping the needs of enterprises or developing training programs collaboratively with the participation of enterprises to ensure output quality. Accordingly, VNU continued to implement talent, advanced, high-quality and international-standard training programs to gradually improve the quality of human resources training, serving the country’s socio-economic development and international integration. Besides, VNU permits those students with good academic ability to attend dual degree programs that allow them to graduate in shorter duration.

Talent, advanced, high quality and international standard training programs

VNU’s member units continued to focus on developing talent, advanced, high quality and international standard training programs. In the past academic year, 398 students graduated from these training programs, accounting for 8.6% of the total number of graduates. In particular, the training units focused on building and opening many high quality training programs according to Circular 23/2014, raising the number of quality training programs in the entire VNU to 31 programs (27 high quality training programs according to Circular 23/2014 and 4 unit-specific training programs). Statistically, VNU is implementing 55 undergraduate programs including 4 talent programs; 11 VNU-standard high quality programs; 27 high quality programs according to Circular 23/2014; 4 unit-specific programs; 3 advanced programs; 6 international standard programs, with a student body of 11,548, accounting for 28.8% of the total number of full-time students (currently, 40,100) studying at VNU.

Dual degree training programs

In the past academic year, VNU recruited 619 students, approximately 77% of the set target (target of 800) for these programs. VNU's dual degree training scale was 2,075 students. There were 223 students graduating from dual degree training programs in the 2019-2020 academic year. Compared to the previous academic year, the number of students enrolled in the 2nd degree programs increased significantly although several VNU’s training units had either stopped or reduced the enrollment quota as a large number of students failed to meet the foreign language requirement. Currently, the students attending dual degree training programs are mainly from the following training units: VNU University of Languages and International Studies, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU University of Economics and Business and VNU School of Law.
