RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTIVITIES

The management of S&T activities has been renewed and linked with digital transformation

VNU has issued an Action Plan on key missions and solutions towards the development of a digital university, using information technology, data processing, and digital application store in university organization and operation and in the application of artificial intelligence, big data, internet of things to develop the Digital university - the Smart University, VNU (VNU 4.0). To develop the Digital University - Smart University (a Unified Digital Ecosystem, One VNU), it requires a rapid synchronous implementation of digital transformation based on Technology 4.0 by all VNU’s affiliates and their subordinate units, just like the "Cells" (Units) in the "Body" (VNU). VNU digital data - digital information - digital knowledge system will be operated on the basis of a unified and synchronous technology to help VNU to quickly, accurately and efficiently steer, manage, monitor all the member units’ real time training, research and study activities; and also to help these units steer, manage and supervise all the activities of their subordinates in accordance with the direction of VNU. Relationships, connections and linkages within VNU will be multidimensional, diverse, yet unified and developed in a digital ecosystem to promote digital research and training most effectively, innovatively and rapidly with highest quality anytime, anywhere.

VNU's science and technology product groups

VNU's science and technology products group are properly oriented and divided into some main categories, as follows:

ª Researchers in Social Sciences and Humanities have actively involved in the Party and State’s practical review and theoretical studies; provided scientific foundation for the development of the Party's policies and guidelines; protected and developed the Party’s ideology; built and developed Vietnam’s socio-economy, culture and people.

ª Natural sciences and Medical-Pharmaceutical sciences have continued to thrive towards international expertíe, contributing 60% of VNU's international publications; many basic research projects in natural sciences have made great contributions to environmental protection, efficient use of natural resources, climate change response, defence and security assurance.

ª Research in science, technology and engineering developed to a higher level in capacity. Many core technologies and products have been successfully developed and transferred, partly improving productivity, product quality, and competitiveness of the whole economy.

ª Interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral science is prioritized for investment and represents the unique strength bearing the Brand name VNU with many highly practical research topics, which help solve many essential national issues.

Developing a system of interdisciplinary laboratories, forming strong research groups

VNU has completed feasibility reports, developed investment policy and investment project justifications for 12 component projects. The projects aim to build a system of shared laboratories throughout VNU having the following specific capabilities:

ª To create scientific products which effectively help ministries and sectors address burning and critical issues in Vietnam;

ª To support the laboratories of VNU units in organizing research;

ª To act as a centre to support graduate high-quality training; and

ª To produce highly innovative products to attract investment from businesses to form start-ups in research process.
