Two other Vietnamese higher education institutions were also featured in the THE Asia University Rankings 2021, namely Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Group 351-400 and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) in Group 401+.
Maintaining its leading position in Vietnam in the second year participating in the THE Asian University Rankings 2021, with the highest total score among the three Vietnamese higher education institutions (26.9–29.6), VNU also achieved the highest score in 4/5 ranking indicators (Teaching, Research, Citations, and International outlook); meanwhile, VNUHCM saw its highest score in Industry income.
In comparison to the 2020 ranking results, VNU has increased in all the indicators of the THE Asia University Rankings 2021, among which, the strongest increase was in the Citation (8%), followed by Research (7.4%), and the remaining 3 indicators: Teaching, Industry income and International outlook rose slightly by 1.6%, 1.6% and 0.6%, respectively.
The Times Higher Education Asia Universities Rankings 2021 use the 13 performance indicators grouped into five areas: Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), Industry income (7.5%), and International outlook (7.5%).
This year, the THE rankings evaluated 551 institutions from 30 Asian countries and territories. In 2020, there were 500 participating institutions, including the three above-named Vietnamese higher education institutions.
The top five universities in the THE Asia University Rankings 2021 include Tsinghua University (China), Peking University (China), National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and the University of Hong Kong.
