Opening ceremony of the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) 2021
On July 19, 2021, the Education Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Training in collaboration with VNU University of Science held the opening ceremony of the International Mathematics Olympiad 2021.

The 62nd International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO 2021) hosted by the Russian Federation, is a virtual event administered on July 19-20. In Vietnam, the contest is held at VNU University of Science and Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese team comprised six members, including Phan Huu An, Dinh Vu Tung Lam, Truong Tuan Nghia - 12th graders from the High School for Gifted Students (VNU University of Science); Phan Huynh Tuan Kiet - a 12th grader from Ho Chi Minh City’s Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted; Do Bach Khoa - a 12th grader from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; and VU Ngoc Binh - an 11th grader from Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Mr. Vu Hoang Linh, Rector of VNU University of Science, emphasized that amid the ongoing complex nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university had made thorough preparations in terms of facilities, transmission lines, and computers. The university has also strictly implemented the pandemic prevention measures aimed at ensuring the smooth running of the contest.

Prof. Dr. Le Anh Vinh, head of the Vietnamese team, revealed that the team had taken part in more than 100 virtual training sessions, with an average of 10 sessions a week and sometimes, even up to 12 sessions per week.
