VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMP) set off to help southern Covid-19 hotspot
With strong determination to join the frontline against the Covid-19 epidemic with the people nationwide, on August 6, 2021, VNU held a send-off ceremony for VNU UMP volunteer team departing to help fight against the Covid-19 epidemic in Dong Thap province. The volunteer team consists of 5 lecturers - doctors and 20 medical students.

At the ceremony, VNU President Le Quan handed over the donations from VNU Office and Functional Departments’ officials and employees to Dr. Le Hung – Head of VNU UMP volunteer team.

Notably, over the past period, with its high social responsibility, VNU has sent staff, lecturers and students to join the Rapid Response Information Team under the National Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and was rewarded by the Prime Minister for their contributions to the Covid-19 prevention and control activities. VNU's units take very good care of their staff's lives, support lecturers in online teaching and strongly support and help students studying at VNU. VNU in general and VNU UMP in particular, will conduct training and prepare more forces to participate in the fight against the epidemic in other regions of the country if mobilized.

At the ceremony, Prof. People’s Doctor Le Ngoc Thanh, Rector of VNU UMP, said that, responding to the call for solidarity and determination to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic by the Party General Secretary, State President, Prime Minister and Minister of Health, that VNU UMP volunteer team set off to help Dong Thap was highly meaningful.

Rector Thanh said that the team from VNU UMP were fully trained at E Hospital in accordance with the epidemic prevention and control regulations.

On behalf of the team, Dr. Le Hung expressed his emotions when participating in the first launch of VNU UMP in response to the call of the Ministry of Health to help southern localities in fighting against the epidemic. He said that this volunteer business trip was an opportunity for lecturers and students of the university to challenge as well as to affirm their expertise, sense of discipline, spirit of mutual support and help under all circumstances.
