VNU UET: Research and development of a mobile manipulator with industry 4.0 technology for agricultural applications
Recently, a mechatronics and automation research group from VNU University of Engineering and Technology (VNU UET) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Manh Thang, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Mechanics and Automation, has researched and successfully designed a fruit-harvesting mobile manipulator. This research result promises to bring wide applications to improve productivity, reduce costs and solve human resource concerns in today's agriculture market.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Manh Thang said that the research team pioneered in researching and manufacturing a greenhouse fruit-harvesting robot was an important step in mastering high technology applied in agriculture. Because the robot is designed and manufactured with domestic components, the cost is only about 30% of that of the similar imported robot. Vietnamese engineers can completely program and master the robot control software, regardless of foreign technology. In the coming time, the research team will continue to improve the product, expand the robot's capabilities and operating space by placing the robotic arm on an autonomous vehicle capable of moving automatically in the greenhouse. In addition, the research team continues to implement other scientific tasks with the goal of applying the most of Mechatronics and Automation techniques and technologies to the country’s socio-economic development.

The product is expected to hit the market by the end of 2022.
