THE Rankings Symposium
Organized in partnership with the Association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges (AVU&C) and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) on September 20, 2022, THE Rankings Symposium aimed to provide Vietnamese universities with a deeper understanding of their performance and potential in the THE's World University Rankings.

THE's new ranking approaches and methods as well as best practices and advice were also shared to help Vietnamese universities better prepare for THE Rankings.

Ms. Elizabeth Shepherd, Managing Director of THE’s Consultancy Services, analyzed five Vietnamese Universities’ ranking results in THE WUR and the potential for more Vietnamese institutions to compete with the best universities around the world.

THE Impact Rankings is the first and only global performance table that assesses universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Mr. Ritin Malhotra, THE General Manager & Regional Director (Asia) provided introduction and recap of Impact Rankings methodology, data submission process for Impact Rankings 2023, examples of evidence and metrics as well as Vietnamese universities’ performance in 2022.

At the conference, many delegates - leaders of higher education institutions in Northern and Central Vietnam shared opinions on the characteristics of Vietnamese education in the context of international ranking participation and the impact of rankings on the quality of training, scientific research and community development. They had in-depth discussions about the Sustainable Development Goals, preparations for participating in THE Impact Rankings – especially by SDG 1 “No Poverty” and SDG 16 “Peace, Justice and Strong institutions”. They were also interested in how THE World University Rankings would change in terms of ranking methods in 2023 and its impact on ranks, the benefits that the rankings bring to universities, fairness in ranking, equality for small universities, selection of evidence for ranking, etc.
