The conference was to review the cooperation activities in 2024, discuss and reach agreements on key cooperation areas in 2025. This year's conference was hosted by VNU-Hanoi.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Member of the Party Central Committee, President of VNU-HCMC and Prof.Dr. Le Quan, President of VNU-Hanoi co-chaired the conference.
In his conference opening speech, Prof.Dr. Le Quan emphasized the mission and role of the National Universities in the era of the nation's rise. Since their establishment, the Party and State leaders have always given priority to resources for developing them into world-class multi-disciplinary, multi-field training and scientific research centres serving as the driving force for the entire education system, human resource development, and advanced scientific and technological research to make a contribution to the country’s sustainable development. Over the 30 years of building and development, VNU-Hanoi and VNU-HCMC have always adhered to their mission, further demonstrating their roles and responsibilities in the new era – the era of the nation's rise.
Prof.Dr. Le Quan affirmed that the most crucial breakthrough solution for development in the new era was science and technology with high-quality human resources.
According to VNU-Hanoi President, by investing in education and training, especially in elite higher education, we can help today’s youth become elite. Elite higher education should aim to develop a team of globally outstanding experts and scientists, capable of pioneering in theoretical creativity, scientific methods, mastering and leading the development of new technologies, core technologies, and foundational technologies.
In recent years, with their own continuous development and the Party and State’s strong attention reflected through many major breakthrough policies, the two National Universities have made numerous accomplishments and progressively asserted their importance in the national education system, as well as their position on the regional and global education map. With a favourable mechanism, an incredibly large pool of scientists, and an expansive development space, both National Universities have the capacity for playing a pivotal role in Vietnamese higher education, leading the training of high-quality human resources and developing a team of elite experts.
The conference delegates pointed out breakthrough solutions for Vietnamese higher education in general and the two National Universities in particular, in scientific research and technology, training and developing high-quality, highly skilled, and elite human resources, as well as cooperation, and knowledge and technology transfer with the world. They agreed that the National Universities should promote a high level of autonomy, develop policies to encourage scientists, increase resources, and enhance the effectiveness of innovation achievements to create a dynamic and sustainable research ecosystem.
Right after the conference, the two National Universities agreed to collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies to establish the National Cyber Security Centre with multi-layered solutions, aiming to detect and thoroughly address unprecedented threats in cyberspace to ensure the safety and security of information and data in the online environment and fulfill the mission of the National Universities in the digital era.
Based on a solid foundation of basic science, the two National Universities plan to jointly develop training programs in semiconductor technology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, among others. They will also actively collaborate in the field of new energy and in developing high-quality experts for emerging professions, such as operators for nuclear power plants, large international airport complexes, and metro systems; experts for urban railways, the North-South high-speed railway project, etc. These are the emerging areas in which the two National Universities must take the lead in training and research to gradually master advanced technologies to significantly contribute to the nation’s socio-economic development and sustainable growth.
