MANY HEADS OF STATE, POLITICIANS AND RENOWNED SCHOLARS PAY WORKING VISITS TO VNU
In 2024, many heads of state, politicians, and renowned scholars from around the world paid working visits to VNU.
On November 18, 2024, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam met with representatives of teachers and education managers on the occasion of the Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, and awarded the Third-class Labour Order to VNU University of Economics and Business on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the University's establishment. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education & Training and VNU with the participation of more than 3,000 teachers, education managers and students from VNU and other educational institutions across the country.
Addressing the meeting, General Secretary To Lam said, “On behalf of the Party and State leaders, I highly appreciate the achievements that VNU’s teachers and scientists have made over the past years as significant contributions to training high-quality human resources and nurturing talents for the country; bringing the brand of the Vietnamese higher education to the region and the world. I hope that VNU will make further achievements, maintain the mission of being the cradle for training talents and talented scientists; pioneer in and lead the higher education system in international integration; strive to become the national leading scientific research centre aimed at featuring among regional and international top universities, a cooperation destination for large domestic and foreign enterprises, and a place to incubate future science and technology enterprises.”
On October 7, 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prof. Klaus Schwab, Founder & Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) visited VNU and engaged its students in conversation on the topic "Positioning Viet Nam in the Intelligent Age - Next Generation Visionaries" at VNU Nguyen Van Dao Hall. This event marked the return of Prof. Klaus Schwab, the Founder & Chairman of the WEF, to Vietnam after 15 years, with the purpose of inspiring and motivating the creativity and determination of Vietnamese students and youth. The conversation focused on the trends shaping humanity's intelligent era, the opportunities and challenges for Vietnam in this new developmental age, and the need of young people to grasp these trends and pioneer contributions to the country's development.
During the five-day official visit to Vietnam from January 5 to January 9, 2024, on January 1, 2024, Bulgarian National Assembly Speaker Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov paid a visit to VNU and delivered a speech on “Bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Vietnam through the lens of economic and cultural ties”. His visit to VNU was an important event, reflecting the friendly relationship and cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria.
In 2024, VNU leaders held meetings with several senior officials of the Japanese government, including Chairperson of the Policy Research Council under the Liberal Democratic Party Mr. Tokai Kisaburo, Deputy Director of the Japanese Cabinet Mr. Nishiyama Hidemasa, and Special Advisor to the Vietnam-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Alliance Mr. Takebe Tsutomu. During these meetings, the parties discussed solutions to concentrate resources on developing VNU Vietnam Japan University into a prestigious and high-quality institution – a leading university in the region and Asia.
In the past year, several high-ranking officials from the People's Republic of China have visited and worked with VNU leaders, opening up numerous opportunities for cooperation in education, scientific research, and technology transfer including Mr. He Wei - Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, Prof. Qiu Yong – alternate member of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Tsinghua University Party Committee secretary, Chairperson of the University Council
On September 30, 2024, Mr Nick Clegg, President, Global Affairs at Meta visited VNU and talked to its students on “The future of artificial intelligence (AI) and Vietnam”. Through the event, he wanted to share with VNU students about global science and technology, especially AI, development trend; the vision of Meta, a world-leading technology company, as well as what the younger generation can and needs to do to keep up with the opportunities brought by science and technology.
VNU JUMPS 456 PLACES TO 325TH RANK IN QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS: SUSTAINABILITY 2025
On December 10, 2024, Quacquarelli Symonds released the ranking results of the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025 for nearly 1,800 higher education institutions worldwide. Accordingly, VNU made a big jump to 325th rank globally (an increase of 456 places compared to its 2024 position), 51st in Asia, and 1st in Vietnam.
The QS WUR: Sustainability provides a unique perspective on higher education institutions that are committed to pursuing sustainable development based on their social and environmental impact, through which universities contribute to Environmental impact, Social impact, and Governance. Specifically, VNU was ranked 204th globally in Governance, 364th globally in Environmental impact, and 399th globally in Social impact.
Previously, on June 5, 2024, Quacquarelli Symonds released the edition of the QS World University Rankings 2025 (QS WUR 2025). Accordingly, VNU rose remarkably to feature in Group 851-900 world’s best higher education institutions, ranked 161st in Asia and 40th in Southeast Asia. VNU continued to be highly regarded by employers with its Employment outcomes and Employer reputation ranked 202nd and 472nd globally respectively.
This ranking result once again demonstrates the efforts of VNU’s entire leadership, staff, scientists, and students in creating and disseminating new knowledge, conducting cutting-edge scientific research, committing to education for sustainable development, and engaging with the community.
According to the Webometrics July 2024 Rankings, VNU ranked 771st among the world’s top universities and maintained its Visibility in Top 100 leading educational institutions in Asia. VNU maintained its top position among Vietnamese higher education institutions, ranked 169th in Asia and 15th in Southeast Asia. VNU also continuously improved its Transparency position.
In 2024, the THE Impact Rankings evaluated the performance of higher education institutions against the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Accordingly, VNU featured in Top 401-600 globally, demonstrating its role in linking the higher education environment with the community, affirming VNU’s advanced and friendly academic environment. This philosophy was also an important orientation for VNU to plan, build and develop the VNU town in Hoa Lac.
ENHANCING INTERNATIONAL PRESTIGE THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH TOP UNIVERSITIES WORLDWIDE, FULFILLING NATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES IN SCIENTIFIC & TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION, AND EDUCATION & TRAINING
In 2024, VNU signed and exchanged various cooperation agreements with prestigious universities worldwide in the presence of both Vietnamese and international leaders. Expanding collaboration with international partners, especially renowned higher education institutions, played a crucial role in helping VNU achieve its development goals and further enhance educational and training cooperation between Vietnam and other countries around the world.
On June 20, 2024, in the presence of Vietnamese President To Lam and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, VNU exchanged cooperation agreements with the Far Eastern Federal University and the National Research University Higher School of Economics on the occasion of Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Vietnam.
On July 2, 2024, in the presence of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his South Korean counterpart Han Duck Soo, VNU President Le Quan and Seoul National University President Ryu Hong Lim exchanged the cooperation agreements between the two universities during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to South Korea. Also on this occasion, VNU collaborated with Seoul National University and the Vietnamese Embassy in South Korea to organize a policy talk by the Vietnamese Prime Minister for the staff and students of Seoul National University.
As part of the official visit of Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam to Mongolia, Ireland, and France from September 30, 2024 to October 7, 2024, VNU signed and exchanged cooperation agreements with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, University College Dublin, the University of Cork, and Paris-Saclay University.
On October 13, 2024, in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, VNU and Peking University exchanged a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the two universities during Premier Li Qiang's visit to Vietnam.
Earlier on, VNU signed memoranda of understanding with several top universities in China in education, scientific research, and technology transfer, especially in such key areas as artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology.
On March 29, 2024, VNU President Le Quan and Xiamen University President Zhang Zongyi signed a bilateral cooperation agreement. On August 27, 2024, VNU’s delegation led by VNU President Le Quan paid a working visit to Tsinghua University. On this occasion, the two universities signed a memorandum of understanding to promote scientific research, education, and talent development in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology.
After the visit of Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam to China from August 18-20, 2024, the two sides issued a Joint Statement on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and promoting the building of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future. In this context, the strengthening of cooperation in higher education and talent training between the two countries has become increasingly important. From August 27 to August 28, 2024, as part of his business trip to China, VNU President paid a working visit to Peking University and Tsinghua University, two of China’s most prestigious higher education institutions, to promote cooperation in many cutting-edge fields.
On October 23, 2024, VNU President Le Quan and University of Macau President Yonghua Song signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding and a cooperation agreement on student exchange as a basis for both institutions to cooperate in a wide range of activities and further develop their partnership. On November 26, 2024, VNU and Nanjing University signed a framework cooperation agreement, establishing a solid foundation for the two universities to carry out academic and research activities, reflecting their social responsibility as well as the capabilities and prestige of leading universities in the region.
COMPLETING THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY AND INNOVATIVE UNIVERSITY, REORGANIZING VNU TO CREATE A STRONG MOMENTUM FOR ITS DEVELOPMENT
On January 29, 2024, VNU President signed Decision No. 333/QĐ-ĐHQGHN on transforming VNU School of Interdisciplinary Studies into VNU School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts.
The School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts has been entrusted by VNU with the mission of training high-quality human resources, nurturing talent with an interdisciplinary focus; pioneering and developing fields related to cultural, creative, and artistic industries; conducting research, knowledge transfer, and policy consulting; and contributing to the construction, development and protection of the country and international integration.
In 2024, VNU completed the development plan for the health science sector to build a strong, reputable international standard system. VNU Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hospital - Linh Dam establishment received substantial investedment with the expectation to make a significant transformation in diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare for the public. This is an important step in implementing VNU's development strategy. VNU Hospital was also granted an operating license with 50 inpatient beds to start with by the Ministry of Health. According to this license, VNU hospital meets the basic standards to carry out general inpatient and outpatient diagnosis and treatment, general training for VNU health science students, and continuing medical education for healthcare professionals. In the past year, the Ministry of Health also approved the list of 1,487 medical techniques to be performed at the hospital.
Recognizing the growing demand for diverse healthcare services, VNU Hospital established the Family Doctor Centre and On-demand Services. This service provides comprehensive health monitoring at home or at medical centres for individuals and families, offering high-quality medical services, keeping up with the latest healthcare trends, and ensuring patient satisfaction and trust. VNU is mobilizing all its available resources for providing modern, synchronized equipment to develop high-tech medical services, improve the quality and position of its hospital establishments, and contribute to the successful implementation of VNU’s strategic goal of meeting the community’s needs.
The implementation of the organizational reform and restructuring according to Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017, by the 12th Party Central Committee is considered a major and comprehensive "revolution." This is an important step that lays a solid foundation to enhance the quality and overall effectiveness in all aspects of VNU’s operations. Fully adhering to Resolution 18-NQ/TW, VNU quickly launched the reform, aiming to streamline the organizational structure, making it more effective, efficient, and capable of achieving high performance. Accordingly, on December 11, 2024, VNU issued Decision No.5755/QĐ-ĐHQGHN on establishing VNU Project Management Unit by merging the existing VNU Project Management Department and the Project Management Unit for Construction Investment of VNU. On December 24, 2024, the Standing Committee of VNU Party Committee and the Steering Committee for summarizing the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW and developing and implementing the Project on restructuring and streamlining the organizational apparatus within VNU, agreed to reduce the number of member and affiliated units from 36 to 25 contact points. VNU will prioritize the development of advanced technology fields, fostering science and technology enterprises, and supporting startups.
PIONEERING IN TALENT DISCOVERING, NURTURING AND TRAINING
The task of discovering, fostering and training talents has always been received special attention from VNU and has been systematically implemented from high school to graduate levels. The recent model of training VNU high school excellent students is a pioneer in discovering, fostering and training talents for the country.
In 2024, students from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students won 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals at International Olympiads, namely 1 bronze medal in Mathematics; 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal in Informatics; 1 silver medal in Physics; and 1 gold medal in Biology. VNU HUS High School students also won 1 bronze medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad; 1 gold medal and 5 silver medals at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad.
One of VNU’s innovative directions was to provide early career orientation for VNU's specialized high school students through counseling and supporting them to accumulate a number of selected bachelor’s credits to enjoy priority in university admissions to bachelor’s degrees at VNU. VNU High School Talent Incubation Program (VNU 12+) was built to discover, attract, foster, train and provide early career guidance for VNU’s talented and potentially capable high school students with the goal of creating opportunities for them to participate in career-oriented programs and accumulate a number of selected bachelor’s credits that align with their career direction. In the past year, 180 students from 4 VNU high schools have been selected to participate in the VNU 12+ Program at 7 undergraduate training units of VNU.
In addition, in 2024, VNU continued to develop a comprehensive research environment for students by expanding programs connected with businesses and research partners, while providing the best financial and technical support for these activities. VNU has also implemented many collaborative activities with domestic and international corporations and enterprises, such as Samsung Group, Hyundai Group, LG Display Co., Ltd., among others, in support of VNU’s training and scientific research.
In the past year, there has been a noticeable shift in the training structure of basic science disciplines at VNU. VNU is currently developing the project "Investing in and Developing Basic Sciences" aimed at developing traditional basic sciences that are in line with the market economy conditions. VNU also continued to establish mechanisms to prioritize funding for the training of talents in basic sciences.
ISSUING A NUMBER OF POLICIES TO ENHANCE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CAPACITY
In 2024, VNU’s scientific and technological capacity continued to receive focused and strategic investment through practical and effective policies. VNU's scientists published approximately 2,000 international articles in ISI/Scopus-indexed journals, marking an increase of 20% compared to 2023.
VNU further implemented various "nurturing" policies with more investments in scientists and research groups to enhance the capacity of key laboratories and strong research teams, and reform administrative procedures in the management of science and technology, etc. In addition, VNU issued several policies to address challenges related to intellectual property, technology transfer, commercialization of science and technology products, and establishment and development of enterprises within VNU, among others. These policies have been comprehensively implemented, helping to unlock creative potentials of scientists, leading to the creation of valuable science and technology products, many of which have already been in use, further affirming VNU's reputation and position in Vietnam's science and technology.
On July 3, 2024, VNU issued Announcement No. 3138/TB-ĐHQGHN regarding the pilot implementation of a financial support policy for VNU’s outstanding scientific staff. Earlier on, on June 14, 2024, VNU also issued Guideline No. 2622/HD-ĐHQGHN on supporting international publications. Up to now, VNU has received registrations from 38 scientific staff with 173 outstanding works, including 114 articles (1 article in Top 1%, 18 articles in Top 5%, 55 articles in Q1 journals, 40 articles in Q2 journals) and 59 intellectual property registration applications. According to the first funding requests, VNU has advanced 50% of the projected final support equal to 2.2 billion VND, for 190 out of 197 international scientific publications eligible for the support of over 4.5 billion VND from 10 VNU’s members and affiliated units.
Currently, VNU is preparing the project "Developing Outstanding Scientists and Research Groups." Through this project, support policies, especially financial support for VNU scientists, have undergone significant updates. This pilot policy will serve as a basis for evaluating one of the criteria for identifying outstanding scientific staff. The new features of this policy will provide practical support, contributing to motivating scientific staff to increase the quantity and ensure the quality of their scientific publications.
Also, in the past year, VNU has increased investment in equipment and laboratories to support training and research activities. The most advanced equipment, worth hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars from renowned global manufacturers, was installed in the biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, physics, electronics, and robotics laboratories at VNU Vietnam Japan University at Hoa Lac campus. From the 2024-2025 academic year onwards, students will have the opportunity to intern and conduct research in these modern laboratories.
INCREASING THE VALUE OF INNOVATION FOR THE SOCIETY’S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Resolution No. 45-NQ/TW of the 13th Central Party Committee has set specific goals for 2030, including the establishment of a strong intellectual workforce with necessary capabilities, qualities, and enthusiasm to play a key role in the fields of science and technology, education, and social development.
Expected to develop into one of the leading universities in the region with high global ranking, contributing to affirming Vietnam's position in the global higher education network and successfully implementing the goals set in the named Resolution, VNU issued Decision No. 1072/QĐ-ĐHQGHN on establishing a Steering Committee for implementing the Project of developing VNU into a university among the world’s Top 500 leading universities by 2030. The Steering Committee is tasked with directing and urging units, organizations, and individuals within VNU, as well as collaborating with external stakeholders, to build, refine, and implement specific tasks and solutions to develop the intellectual workforce, create a suitable educational and research environment, and enable VNU to fulfill its national mission in the upcoming period.
On November 14, 2024, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, VNU-Hanoi and VNU-Ho Chi Minh City co-organized the annual Science and Technology Conference themed "Improving the institutional framework to promote the development of science, technology, and innovation."
Notably, on December 5, 2024, VNU President issued Decision No. 5615/QĐ-ĐHQGHN on establishing the Task Force and Secretariat for compiling the Investment Policy Report and the Feasibility Study Report for the project "VNU Investment in the Construction of the National Microchip Design, Fabrication, and Testing Support Centre".
With the mission of the nation's leading centre for education, scientific research, technology application, innovation, and knowledge transfer, VNU has consistently prioritized investment in and promotion of science and technology (S&T) activities, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Many products from VNU's S&T activities have been widely applied in agencies and businesses, contributing to enhancing competitiveness, improving and diversifying products and services, and developing markets for enterprises. VNU granted intellectual property rights (patents, utility solutions, copyrights) for 20 products developed by its scientists and signed research cooperation contracts between enterprises and VNU units or scientists. In the past year, several S&T enterprises have been founded and developed by VNU scientists, including Greentech Joint Stock Company (VNU School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts) and AMBIO Biotechnology Application Co., Ltd. (VNU Institute of Microbiology & Biotechnology). These are examples of the successful technology transfer, opening up opportunities to apply advanced technologies in practice.
MANY VNU UNITS ORGANIZE CELEBRATION ACTIVITIES
The year 2024 marked the anniversary of the foundation of many training and research units within VNU.
On March 19, 2024, VNU Institute of Vietnamese Studies & Development Science held a ceremony to celebrate its 20th anniversary (March 19, 2004 - March 19, 2024). The Institute was established on the basis of VNU Centre for Vietnamese and Intercultural Studies, formerly the Vietnam Research Cooperation Centre at Hanoi University. Over the past 20 years, with a 35-year tradition, the Institute has continuously grown and developed.
On October 12, 2024, VNU Vietnam Japan University (VJU) held a ceremony to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Realizing the idea of deepening the Vietnam-Japan friendship, especially in the field of education and training high-quality human resources and with great efforts by both governments, VNU Vietnam Japan University was established on July 21, 2014 as a member university of VNU under Decision No. 1186/QĐ-TTg by the Vietnamese Prime Minister. VJU, with its core philosophy based on Liberal education and Sustainable development, aims to become a prestigious research-oriented university in Asia and to train high-quality human resources with practical skills to meet the community’s needs.
On November 15, 2024, VNU University of Education held a ceremony to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The establishment and development of the Faculty of Pedagogy, now the University of Education, reflected the leadership's expectation of creating an educational institution that both fulfills the function of higher education and engages in research and policy consultancy in education, guiding the development of education and addressing major issues in the country's education system.
On November 16, 2024, VNU University of Engineering and Technology held a ceremony to celebrate its 20th anniversary and to receive the Second-Class Labour Order. Over the past 20 years, VNU University of Engineering and Technology has made significant progress, solidifying its position as a leading higher education institution in training technology and engineering talents within Vietnam's higher education system.
On November 18, 2024, VNU University of Economics and Business held a ceremony to celebrate its 50th anniversary and to receive the Third-Class Labour Order. VNU University of Economics and Business, formerly the Department of Political Economy, Hanoi University, was established in 1974. Over the past 50 years of development, with continuous efforts by the leadership, staff, faculty, and students, the university has made a lot of prideworthy achievements.
On November 26, 2024, VNU School of Business and Management organized a ceremony to celebrate the 5th anniversary of its Institute of Non-Traditional Security (INS) and the launch of the journal "Management, Security, and Technology". This milestone marked the journey of the Institute’s building, developing, and affirming its role in the field of non-traditional security and management, reflecting the contribution of VNU’s scientists to the sustainable development of the country in the era of globalization and Vietnam's strong international integration. The Institute of Non-Traditional Security is a self-financed public unit established under the Prime Minister's Decision and the first interdisciplinary non-traditional security research institution for Vietnam’s sustainable development.
MANY SCIENTISTS AND STUDENTS HONOURED
On August 28, 2024, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presented the year 2024 awards to 135 outstanding intellectuals in science and technology. The awardees included five VNU scientists recognized for their exceptional achievements in research and the development of science and technology, namely Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Van Bao, Prof. Nguyen Xuan Cu - People's Teacher, Prof.Dr. Truong Quang Hai and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Manh from VNU University of Science; and Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc from VNU University of Engineering and Technology.
On October 8, 2024, Hanoi organized a ceremony to honour outstanding individuals and commend the year 2024 "Outstanding Citizens of Hanoi". Prof.Dr. Phung Huu Phu, former Standing Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, former Secretary of VNU Party Committee, and former Rector of VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, was recognized as one of the 10 outstanding individuals honoured at the event.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Manh Tri from the Faculty of Chemistry, VNU University of Science, was one of the two Vietnam’s outstanding scientists honoured with the Ta Quang Buu Awards 2024. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Manh Tri has authored three articles published in the world’s 5% of the most prestigious journals in environmental engineering, toxicology, health, and genetic mutation; helping resolve the globally urgent issue of environmental pollution caused by the spread of synthetic chemicals.
Dr. Nguyen Van Son, a lecturer from the Department of Information Technology, VNU University of Engineering and Technology was honoured with the 2024 Golden Globe Award in information technology, digital transformation, and automation. With numerous achievements in scientific research and teaching, Dr. Nguyen Van Son surpassed 62 outstanding young candidates to become one of the 10 individuals honoured this year.
In 2024, five scientists from VNU: Prof.Dr.Sci. Nguyen Dinh Duc (VNU University of Engineering and Technology); Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Hoang Son (VNU Institute of Information Technology); Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duc Khuong, Dr. Chu Dinh Toi and Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong (VNU International School) featured among the world’s most influential people.
Dr. Ly Viet Truong, born in 1994, from VNU Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Science, was awarded the first "Khue Van Cac Prize" in 2024 for the most outstanding young scientist by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.
In 2024, VNU continued to present the Educator of the Year Award to honour educators with outstanding achievements in training, research and contributions to the realizing of VNU’s leading role to higher education renovation and the nation’s socio-economic development. The following eight educators were awarded this title: Prof. Dr. Dang Hoang Minh (VNU University of Education), Assoc. Prof.Dr. Tran Manh Tri (VNU University of Science), Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Thanh Tung (VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy), Dr. Lam Thi Hoa Binh (VNU University of Languages and International Studies), Dr. Le Hong Thai (VNU University of Economics and Business), Dr. Kim Dinh Thai (VNU International School), Dr. Tran Thi Viet Ha (VNU Vietnam Japan University), and M.A. Le Thi Ha (VNU School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts). VNU also presented the VNU Promising Educator 2024 Award to Dr. Phung Thi Thu Huong (VNU University of Economics and Business).
As a recognition of their outstanding achievements in international and regional Olympiads in 2024, five students from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students were awarded Labour Orders. Specifically, three VNU’s students were awarded the Second-Class Labor Order, namely: Nguyen Tien Loc, Hoang Xuan Bach and Pham Cong Minh; two VNU’s students were awarded the Third-Class Labor Order, namely: Nguyen Nhat Minh and Nguyen Huu Tuan; three VNU’s students were awarded the Prime Minister’s Certificate namely: Nguyen Dang Dung, Tran Gia Huy and Nguyen Tuan Linh.
HOA LAC-BASED VNU TOWN IS GRADUALLY CHANGING INTO A GREEN, SMART AND MORDERN UNIVERSITY TOWN
On September 27, 2024, VNU held a groundbreaking ceremony of Headquarters Building – Center Zone of Vietnam National University, Hanoi under Vietnam National University Development - VNU-Hanoi Project. This project was the effort of VNU’s leaders and professional teams with the goal of opening a new development space in facilities, professional activities and human resources. The completed structure will contribute to improving the training quality of VNU. The structure is to be built with credit capital from the World Bank.
VNU Headquarters Building has a total construction floor area of nearly 13,200 square meters with 12 floors, divided into 4 blocks with interconnected corridors. The structure includes a reception hall, a reception room, a conference hall, office rooms, a meeting room and a canteen. The structure is scheduled to be completed within 15 months. The Headquarters Building is located in Central Area 1 (QG-HN03) with an area of 62.8 hectares and functions as an operation and public service centre with the following constituents: Headquarters Building, Library Centre, Museum, Practice Centre for training high-quality human resources in hospitality as well as training support structures, etc.
On December 24, 2024, the construction of VNU University of Engineering and Technology (Phase 1), part of the Vietnam National University Development - VNU-Hanoi Project, was officially launched at a 5.87-hectare site with a total construction area of approximately 10,695 square meters for a 2-to-5-floor building. The project includes an office building, two lecture and laboratory buildings, a multi-purpose hall, a practice and laboratory building, and other technical infrastructure works, including road systems, power stations, and water supply systems, etc. Once completed, the structure will accommodate the educational needs of 6,450 students, in line with the strategic development plan of VNU University of Engineering and Technology. The project is funded by a loan from the World Bank and counterpart funds.
After more than two years since VNU officially moved its headquarters to Hoa Lac (May 19, 2022), the VNU town has been gradually changing into a green, smart, and modern university. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the scale of training at Hoa Lac continued to expand. VNU welcomed more than 4,000 students from the QH.2023 cohort to study in Hoa Lac, raising the total number of full-time students to over 10,000. VNU has also begun operating several facilities, including the HT1 and HT2 lecture halls, the QG-HN04 area with a synchronized system comprising lecture halls, sports facilities, dining areas, dormitories, and landscapes; the outdoor sports area in the QG-HN07 project; the D1, D7, and D8 dormitory complexes; and the B-C dormitory area with five buildings.
Along with the development of the VNU town campus, since early June 2024, Hanoi has launched bus route number 71, connecting the VNU Hoa Lac town with the inner city. This route operates alongside bus routes 74 and 107 (Cau Giay, My Dinh, Kim Ma).
