11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- Research approach: The thesis uses the system approach.

- In terms of theory:

+ Systematizing theoretical research frameworks and studies on sepcial economic zones (SEZs);

+ Forming, systematizing and classifying the different types of SEZs in the world;

+ Building a criteria set for assessing the different types of SEZs in the world;

+ Giving opinions, orientations, objectives and solutions for the SEZ model will be focused in the coming time.

- In terms of practice: The thesis presents the practical results as follows:

+ From the practice of developing SEZs in various countries in the world, especially in developing countries, showing the key factors which affects the success and failure of different SEZ model in the world; lessons learned for Vietnam;

+ Analyzing the current situation of different SEZ models in Vietnam in recent years; assessing the positive aspects and negative aspects as well;

+ Determining the different type of SEZs will be formed, built and developed in the coming period, the period when Vietnam becomes increasingly deeply and broadly integrated in the world, as well as under the strong impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

+ The research results will be a useful refference resource for macro economic policy makers, manager, helpful for the policy making and implementation process on forming, building and developing SEZ models in Vietnam in the near future.

12. Practical applicability

- Based on this results, some types of SEZs (e.g. industrial zones, export processing zones, economic zones, etc) can be analyzed and pointed our strengths and weaknesses related to their activities. These zones can be considered factors and explained thorougly on poli-economic issues as rules, norms and factors or channels affecting on operating process of above mentioned zones, by which appropriate solutions to improve their performance in the future will be given.

- In terms of policy, this researh will be a useful reference for regional economic development policymakers to obtain appropriate policies to encourage and support the development of SEZ models in the future.

13. Further research directions

Researching on the new generation SEZ models, systematize the issues, lessons for Vietnam, proposing opinions, orientations, solutions for developing this models.
