7. Official thesis title: Research on termite composition (Insecta: Isoptera) in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue provinces and propose termite control measures for architectural works

8. Major: Entomology                                                    9. Code: 9420101.06

10. Supervisors:

Main scientific supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Quang;

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- Providing a list of 83 termite species for Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces, of which 7 species were first recorded for the Vietnam termite fauna; 18 species were first recorded for the study areas. Providing data on the distribution characteristics of termites by range of variation in altitude, and habitat for the study area;

- Identifying 5 termite species that harmful to architectural works in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue provinces, of which the most dangerous termite species is Coptotermes gestroi.

- The labour division by age determined at caste ratio of foraging termites of Coptotermes gestroi termites was the first recorded in Vietnam. Foraging workers of Coptotermes gestroi included 3 age groups: 5th instar (antenna with 13 segments), 6th instar (antenna with 14 segments) and 5th instar (antenna with 15 segments). Above 80% of foraging workers (antenna with 13 segments and 14 segments) had to go through molting process. This is an important contribution to the study of using the chitin synthesis inhibitor baits to control Coptotermes gestroi.

- Successful manufacturing of chitin synthesis inhibitor bait to control termites Coptotermes gestroi: Mobahex-C16

12. Practical applicability, if any:

- Accurately determining the composition of termites that harmful to architectural works in Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces to come up with reasonable prevention measures;

- It is possible to apply the termite prevention process for architectural works done in the study area for similar works in the future;

- It is possible to complete and register Mobahex C16 bait into commercial products for use in the prevention of Coptotermes gestroi termites in Vietnam;

- This is a reliable document for researchers in the same field for references.

13. Further research directions, if any

- Continuing to study and identify 11 species that have not yet been identified with scientific names.

- Completing the bait making formula, completing the production technology and circulation registration of Mobahex-C16 bait against Coptotermes gestroi that harmful to architectural works in Vietnam.

- Continuing to study on the use of chitin synthesis inhibitor bait against fungus termite (Termitidae).
