11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

The thesis is one of the few researches on professional ethics of social workers in Vietnam (research in Hanoi, Vietnam), the research has the following new results:

- With the combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, the thesis analyzed the current situation of professional ethics of social workers in Hanoi city in five aspects: (i) professional responsibility; (ii) privacy and confidentiality; (iii) the relationship with clients; (iv) the relationship with colleagues and (v) the relationship with the organization. Specifically, in the 5 research aspects, the subjects have professional ethics with the highest professional ethical standards in the aspect of relationship with the client and the lowest in the professional responsibility aspect.

- The thesis pointed out and analyzed the factors affecting professional ethics of social workers. Socio-demographic characteristics of research subjects (such as gender, age, training level, work experience) influenced the professional ethics of social workers. In which, female had higher mean scores of professional ethics than male. The group of subjects aged from 31 to 40 years old, the group of subjects with post-graduate training and the group of subjects with over 10 years working experience had the highest professional ethics scores in the ethical dimensions. The thesis results also show that the impacts of both organizations and individuals on the professional ethics of research subjects. Specifically, from an organizational perspective, the increase in opportunities for “learning about professional ethics” and “high income” which contributing to a positive change about professional ethics of social workers. From a personal perspective, well-being at work of social workers can increase scores in all five professional ethics aspects that the study covers.

- From the analysis of the above situation, the thesis proposes recommendations for social workers, social service agencies, education and training institutions, Association of Vocational Education and Social Work Profession may be considered to improve the professional ethics of social workers.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

- Social workers; social service agencies, social work education institutions can refer to the thesis results, thereby serving as a basis for building programs, teaching programmes and policies systematically on professional ethics to promote ethical practices of social workers.
