- Findings and practical applicability:

The thesis contributes to systematizing the theoretical basis and developing a livelihood framework in the direction of application to households in border mountainous areas. In addition, the thesis focuses on research, identification and assessment of the livelihood status of households in Ha Giang province.

The thesis analyzes the characteristics of livelihood capital of ethnic minority households in border mountainous areas in Ha Giang province. Livelihood capital is determined to include five components of human capital, physical capital, financial capital, natural capital, and social capital that play a central role in the livelihood framework for households to choose livelihood activities to realizing livelihood goals: raising incomes and reducing poverty.

Research results have shown that ethnic minority households in the border mountainous areas of Ha Giang province have weaknesses in human capital.12. Further research directions: non-agricultural household economic development in the context of national digital transformation; developing non-agricultural households into enterprises. Human capital is limited in terms of qualifications, labor capacity and high dependency ratio. Households in this area also face barriers in terms of physical capital such as: small housing area, lack of information assets, basic assets to participate in production. Furthermore, the study shows that the financial capital of households here is small and dependent on remittances from relatives, so it is difficult to help them change their job structure but only support the poor. immediate difficulties, and cover input costs in small-scale agricultural production. The natural capital of the household is determined through the area of land that the household is holding. Basically, landless households account for a high proportion and the area of agricultural land is small enough to diversify livelihoods. Social capital is defined through village relationships, the sharing of information and experiences. This is the impetus to help households cope with shocks, improve their capacity, which is in the early stages of development. However, this resource has not been paid enough attention to improve the status of the poor.

Based on the above analysis, the thesis has proposed solutions to improve the livelihood capital capacity of households. The solutions are from the perspective of building household's livelihood capital sources so that they can actively choose effective livelihood activities and transform sustainable livelihoods in many directions.
