11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
On the basis of applying theories of conversation and language, we have clarified the television interview is not merely a monotonous, stereotyped and machinery question-answer activity between the interviewer and the interviewee.
Moreover, linguistic communication refers to an expression of culture. In this verbal communication, linguistics care about politeness, and elements to determine the rules of speaking. It can be said that the politeness of a spokesman on television in principle is expressed in both words and cultural behavior.
Being a specific communication, interview on television also follows that rule. In this thesis, we want to emphasize that the interviewer must show his politeness to the interviewee, depending on inter-human relationships. Stemming from that perspective, the thesis also raises a number of advantages and limitations of questioning relating to politeness. Simultaneously, we also offer a number of suggestive proposals in order to improve the quality of interviews on VTV.
12. Practical applicability:
In television interviews, the research on questioning along with different types of questions will allow us not only to suggest students of journalism in particular and Vietnam Television’s reporters, editors and MC's in general know how to ask questions but also help them learn how to use questions as an effective communication tool to serve a specific communication purpose.
13. Further research directions, if any:
- Functional grammar
- Linguistics applications on television.
- Linguistic communication and non-verbal elements in the television interview.
