11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

Based on the literature review of studies in Vietnam and other countries, the thesis develops a system of concepts, such as: orientation; values; value education; value education orientation for children in family.

The findings show that most parents aimed to educate their children to be tradition, obedient, and security. Not many parents focused on the values of power, authority, and success when they education orientate for their children.

Using Schwartz’s Value Survey which consists of 19 typical value groups, the findings show that, most parents chose values such as personal security, equity and equality, care and protection of natural. In contrast, the values such as stimulation, dominance over people, and power through control of material and social resources were rarely chosen by parents.

Besides, the study also shows that in order to reach their goals, parents chose methods such as modeling; giving exemplary examples; reward; commending, and organizing practical activities. The method that parents rarely used is punishment.

The study results also show that value orientation of parents played the most significant influence on values education orientation for their children in family.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The findings of this thesis could be used as references for teaching in different sub-areas of Psychology, such as Family Psychology, Education Psychology, Developmental Psychology. They also could be used as helpful references for parents, teachers, and educational managers for better personality orientation for children and adolescents.  .

13. Further research direction, if any:

Expanding the study settings to rural and mountainous areas. Comparative study would be helpful to examine the similarities and differences in parents’ value education orientation for their children in different sites, including urban, rural, mountainous, and suburban areas.
