5. Admission decision number: Decision No.4374/QĐ-KHTN-CTSV dated 3rd December, VNU University of Science

6. Changes in academic process: The thesis title was allowed to be changed to "Assessment of natural resources, socio-economic and environment for the master plan of the coastal zone in Binh Thuan province "in Decision No. 5595/ QĐ-ĐHKHTN dated 3rd December 2015 of the VNU University of Science.

7. Official thesis title: Assessment of natural resources, socio-economic and environment for the master plan orientation of the coastal zone in Binh Thuan Province

8. Major: Natural resources and Environment Management                      9. Code: 62850101

10. Supervisors: Main Supervisor: Prof.Dr. Tran Nghi

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- Identify the divide of coastal space in Binh Thuan province with four natural areas: (1) river delta - late Holocene delta (Q23); (2) sand shelf, sand dunes, coastal sand dykes, undivided Quaternary age (Q); (3) modern tidal area (Q23); (4) shallow coastal sea from the early Holocene to the modern (Q21-2-Q23).

- Clarify several groups of main conflicts in the process of exploitation and use of natural resources for economic development in Binh Thuan's coastal zone including: (1) conflicts between tourism and mining; (2) conflicts between economic development and protection of natural resources and environment.

- Propose the direction for sustainable development in Binh Thuan’s coastal zone following natural areas with the priorities in order: tourism development; fishery exploitation; clean energy development (wind, solar and wave) and Titanium mineral exploitation based on the cost benefit analysis of natural resource exploitation and use

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The urgency of thesis topic is related to the assessment of natural resources, socio-economic and environmental for the master planning orientation of Binh Thuan's coastal zone. The results of the thesis have scientific and practical meanings, which contribute to improve the theoretical basis for the research of Quaternary geology and geomorphology to identify natural areas for the master plan of Binh Thuan’s coastal zone.

13. Further research directions, if any:

Estimate the costs of benefits of the remaining natural resources at different time points, which will be a basis for synthesizing and assessing the contribution of each kind of natural resources to the economic development of Binh Thuan's coastal zone. Calculate and assess the impacts of climate change, sea level rise on natural resources, environment and socio-economic development in Binh Thuan's coastal zone at different time points. Develop the draft master plan for Binh Thuan's coastal zone to 2020 with a vision to 2030.
