11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- For the first time, the time series of emission data REAS v2.1, with resolution of 0.25o x 0.25o, was used to create emission maps, to evaluate air quality of the study area and to estimate the contribution of major emission sources (transportation, industry, households, and others);

- For the first time, the vertical changes of some pollutants of the study area were studied.

- For the first time, total dry deposition of the study area was estimated from the output of model.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

- The study contributes a new research approach to assess air quality in Vietnam by using data from global and regional models;

- The study provides initial results for evaluation of vertical changes by numerical model. Therefore, it is convinced that numerical model can be used to study, to estimate, and to simulate the vertical change of pollutants;

- The evaluation of air quality by CMAQ model may be used to answer practical questions on air environment such as: environmental impact assessment, environmental planning, air monitoring network planning, environmental management, air pollution warning and management of focal Northern economic region in particular and over Vietnam in general.

13. Further research directions, if any

- Further study on dry deposition in the research area and in Vietnam by modeling approach needs to be conducted.

- Further study on the vertical distribution of pollutants, especially oxidized substances, which easily interact to other substances in the atmosphere is necessary.
