7. Official thesis title:“Study on the status and propose solutions to reduce land pollution of heavy metals (As, Cd, Pb) in vegetable growing area of Thai Nguyen city and surrounding by phytoremediation”

8. Major: Soil and water Environment                  9. Code: 62.44.03.03

10. Supervisors:            Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Khai

Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Kim Chi

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- The results have analyzed and evaluated comprehensively the status of accumulation of heavy metals (As, Cd, Pb) in soil, irrigation water and vegetables in vegetable growing areas of Thai Nguyen city and surrounding.

- Determined the limited thresholds of heavy metal contaminations (As, Cd, Pb) and effects of pH, micro organic fertilizer and EDTA on the growing of Eleusine indica L. and Solanum nigrum L.;

- Determined the potential biomass and the proper havesting period of 2 indigenous plants in treatment for contaminated vegetable soil with As, Cd, Pb.

- Determined the efficiency of phytoremediation for heavy metals (Cd, Pb) of two plant species in the study area.

- Recommended the process of remediation for soil heavy metals accumulated in vegetable soil by those two plants in vegetable growing areas of Thai Nguyen city and surrounding.

12. Practical applicability

The results of this study can be applied in practice to treat the heavy metal contamination of vegetable soil by Eleusine indica L. and Solanum nigrum L., thereby contributing to improve soil quality and sustainable farming in the study area.

13. Further research directions

- To continue studying on effects of some other factors on the ability to treat contaminated soil with heavy metals by Eleusine indica L. and Solanum nigrum L.

- To continue studying on the ability treatment contaminated soil with heavy metals by these two indigenous plant species in other contaminated areas.
