5. Admission decision number: The decision number 3201/QĐ-SĐH, dated on 08th November 2010 by President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

6. Changes in academic process: extending the study period in 2014; 2015 and 2016.

7. Official thesis title: Study of the emission characteristics of dioxin and furan from steel-making and cement kiln manufactures in Vietnam

8. Major: Environmental Science                                                            9. Code: 62440301

10. Supervisors: Assoc.Prof.PhD Do Quang Huy; PhD Nguyen Hung Minh

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- The first time in Vietnam, the emission factors of dioxin and furan from electric arc furnace and cement kiln plants has evaluated based on field sampling and analytical data. The dioxin and furan emission factors of electric arc furnace and cement kiln plants ranged from 1.01 to 2.22 µg TEQ/tons of steel billet and from 0.089 to 0.343 µg TEQ/tons of clinker, respectively.

- Has studied the emission characteristics of dioxin and furan from electric arc furnaces and cement kiln plants in Vietnam. 2,3,7,8-PeCDF was major congener in stack gas and fly ash of electric arc furnace plants. OCDD was major congeners in in stack gas and fly ash of cement kiln plants.

- Has studied the effect of Cu and Cl in fuel and feeding materials on dioxin formation in stack gas and fly ash emission of electric arc furnace and cement kiln plants. The high concentration of Cu and Cl in fuel and feeding materials increased the emission level of dioxin and furan.

12. Paratical applicability, if any:

- The Thesis has calculated dioxin emission factors (EF), these EFs will help for assessment and inventory of dioxin emission from steel-making and cement kiln facilities.

13. Further research directions, if any

- Study of the emission factors of dioxin and Persistent Toxic Substances (PTS) such as PCB, dl-PCB from industrial activities with high temperature operation.
